| Are they the best out there? Have not heard about them until I came to this site. What would be good for use on a boat? I was looking them up and it seems they do not take regular batteries? |
|
The best place to get them is www.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=2&f=142 Calvin is THE MAN for flashlights and related stuff. He donated some T-shirts to Gunstock I, so he may have those too. Check his feedback in the EE. He is the BEST!

My little E2e is as bright as my four cell mag light--but not as much of a spot light, so it won't illuminate as far. It is SO small and lightweight and handy I don't EVER use my mag lights any more. |
E2's and G2s are both as bright, if not brighter than a maglight. With the higher power lamp installed my friends G2 is MUCH more poweful than my 6D cell maglight.

wow, these things sound amazing. |
They are. They are WELL WORTH the money. Get a dozen batteries and you are GTG for a long time. I was amazed at how long the batteries last. Calvin put the slightly dimmer, but three times battery life, bulb in mine. I could not be happier. |

Surefires are not cheap but they are very nice. All of them are pretty damn good. keep in mind the conventional bulbed Surefires will kill batteries fast compared to a Mag-lite or LED bulbed Surefire units. Almost every Surefire will out perform a Mag-lite by several Lumens. Questions you want to ask yourself are do you want to use it for general purpose lighting or combat lighting. Mag-lites make a great head bonker and are cheap but thats about it. Sure-fires mostly use CR123 batteries which have a exceptional shelf life so you never wonder if it is good or not. They are expensive and when they die they die fast, where conventional Alkaline gradually die |
| I like the G2 simply because it has smother lines. Tried the E2, loved it for it's craftsmenship. but it tended to get hung up on stuff. Nothing some fine grit sand paper and some patience couldn't fix, but the rubber armor on the G2 makes cleaning and care less of a worry/chore. |
I am looking for use on a 2 different boats one small eith no spotlights so maybe to shine in the water to aviod rocks and such and one very large boat to be used inside. And if some ever does break into the boat at night then it would rearle be a combat light. Does one fill all of them? |

I used to think "Why the !(*&$#! would I spend that much on a flashlight?!?!" Then I tried a G2. Then a used E2. Then a used 9v weapon light for my pistol. Now I want them all, especially a 9v for my AR. The bottom line was that the tiny little $30 G2 wasted my 3 D-cell Maglight for putting a bright, clean spot of white light where I wanted it. From that moment on I might as well buy some stock in the company. I know there are a couple of competitors now, but I have not seen the quality and customer service from them yet. As far as where to buy, Brightflashlights on the board is getting my cash because he has kindly put up with all my dumb questions. |

The E2 is heavier and hard metal so it would make a better improvised impact weapon. The G2 is lighter, less expensive, and just an all around easier to toss around, drop, smack, and damage without worrying about the outcome light. If you have the cash, get 1 of each. Keep the G2 on you while on deck and the E2 by your night stand. |
A2 Aviator may fit your bill since it does have the option of going LED and bulb illumination. Certain LED colors cut through fog better than just a white light and it works as a great combat light too. |
I just stick it in a pocket... Although ill probably end up with a holster soon. |

Surefires are good, but there is a newcomer, Pentagon lights, they seem really promising at less than half the price and built just as well. Brightflashlights and G&R are carrying them. Pentagon lights There is also a discussion in the AR15 forum under lights and lasers Anyone ever hear of these? |
+1 SureFire is a good light but you should consider Pentagon Lights as well. |
| I had the same feelings why would i spend big bucks on a flashlight. I got a G2 and loved it, then i got a 6P in black with the 120 lum lamp, loved it even more. Then i got a 6P OD for the hell of it, got a good deal. I got tired real quick of replaceing batteries so i droped the cash on a 8NX Commander rechargeable. BEST move i ever made, so light i carry it and forget i have it, and always holds a perfect charge. |

Fellow member of flashlight junkies of Amerika, While Surefire lights are really nice, as previously stated, they are really expensive. I've had ever thing from the E1 to the M3. Presently I only own the G2Z Combat Light. Awesome little lights but there are other companies (also listed above) that are worthy of your attention. Not mentioned yet (I don't think), is INOVA. I have a few of there lights (X1, X5 and X0) and they are also very High quality. The X0 is really worth looking into for the $50 dollar range. It is a 2 cell 123A LED that is the brightest LED light I have seen. Machined aluminum body w/ tailcap. Very nice. InovaX0Light |

I like Surefire. For some time I hesitated to by any of their lights due to the price of the batteries. Yeah, I would in no way purchase a commercial 123 lithium battery from Radio Shack or a camera shop due to their outragious prices. Even Surefire branded 123 batteries were steep. Then one day as I was navigating Surefires website I saw that their branded batteries came down in price to $1.25 a piece. Suddenly I became very interested in obtaining one of their lights. I gambled and purchased a G2 and two boxes of batteries. WooHoo, I liked what I had in my hands. So much so that I had to buy several more G2's and a much larger box of batteries (90 count) including several spare bulbs. I even purchased an early NIB E1 Executive and have that clipped to my belt next to a G2 stuffed into a Surefire soft velcro holster. Six to nine months ago I just had to buy a 6P. Funny, I just can't seem to carry the 6P on my belt. Something about it being more expensive then the G2 on the belt now. I don't know, must be something about not wanting to scratch the finish. For me, I just like the G2. Oh, and the Streamlight factory is just down the road from my house, what 1-3 miles away. I just like Surefire, but you kinda guessed that already didn't ya. |
