Was at the range today breaking in my new SIG 220ST and is is hitting a couple inches to the left. It has been a while sence I had to adjust the sights on a hand gun with dove tail sights like my SIG. I can't remember if I move the front sight blade to the left or right to move my groups to the right? To move my shots back to the right do I move the front sight left of right? If you look close the front sight is sitting a hair to the left on the slide so I'm thinking I need to move it to the right a hair to bring the shots to the right. Am I correct? Now I need to buy a good sight pusher! Thank you for the help! |
Move the front sight in the direction you don't want to go! I.e., you want to go right--move it to the left. Move the rear sight in the direction you want to go. Keep in mind, you might be mashing the trigger, and pulling your shots left. |

If your rounds are landing to the left, move the rear sight to the left. And easy way to remember: Hold out a finger from each hand, lined up, like a sight. Move the finger closest to your face left or right and regain a sight picture. ETA: I re-read your post. You're moving your front sight. Yes, as the poster above wrote, move the front sight to the right. Same finger rule applies (but moving the furthest finger). |

your prolly using too much or not enough finger on the trigger, i have the same problem. before doing any sight moving.. HAVE SOMEONE ELSE SHOOT THE GUN to rule out that its not you but the gun. you can even do some dry fire practice and see the gun move to the left with improper finger placement on the trigger. |
That is what I thought but the gun shop I bought it from swears it is the other way around? My front sight is already a little to far left and the rear is dead center. If I do have to move the front sight to the left even more it is going to look really off center on the slide. Any way to avoid this as that will bug me to have an off center sight? P.S. I dont think I'm pulling my shots as I never have trouble grouping my other hand guns dead center and I always use a bench rest when sighting in. Thank you again! |
I suggest moving the sight so that your groups are centered. Do this even if you are pulling the shots off to the side--if your zero changes later you can always adjust the sight. I shoot NRA Highpower rifle, and I sure don't sight in from a rest. Your zero will be different for every position you use--sight in from your favored shooting position. Like another poster stated, you can use your fingers to figure out the solution. That is what I did. I formed a "V" with two fingers of one hand, and "I" with one finger on the other, and figured out how to adjust the sights. But there are only two chices, and if you make the wrong one you will find out and can then go the other way. P.S. Guns stores are a bad place to get good info. |
I thought to move the front because just by looking at it is a just slightly to the left and that is why I thought I needed to move it to the right to bring my shots to the right. It looks like the opposit though. |
