I hate asking these types of questions, but here I go: What is the best/affordable electronic hearing protection for shooting? Good brands/bad brands?

Thank you. I currently use a cheap Remington headset, and I'm looking for something electronic and low-profile for both pistol and rifle shooting.

Any experience with Peltor or Pro Ear products?

Personally, I stuff reusable plugs in my ears so as to not interfere with my cheek weld. I can still hear people talking around me (as long as they don't whisper or something) and my hearing is fine. They're cheap as hell. Why get fancy?

I might learn someting.

Personally, I don't like to stuff anything into my ears. That's why I stick to external muffs. I can achieve an appropriate weld with my current cheap set, but I want to go electronic (since I really like my Bose pilot headset) with a slim profile.

I use the Peltor Com-Tac .... a bit expensive($260). But the Peltor Tactical 6 uses the same electronics with less bells and whistles for around $70

Ditto the Peltor Tactical 6 comments above (especially since the price has dropped from what it once was).

ps - fwiw, I prefer the non-electronic version Peltors myself, their more compact and get in the way less....

I've used Peltor ComTacs and they were great. Just recently I got a pair of Sordin Supremes. They cost about the same as the Peltors and are outstanding. Both can be found at: Tactical Command. If what you're looking for isn't on their website, call or email them. They have taken great care of me and a couple of guys on my crew.

Pro-Ears are the HEAT!  Have had a set for 4 years now.  Batteries last a LONG time.  They compress loud noises instead of stutting down, so you hear stuff like brass hitting the ground, and, uhhh, people laughing at you, and such!

Very pleased with mine.  Have shot all sorts of pistols, rifles, and machine guns, with no problem, even though I have the full sized variety.  Shotguns may require the smaller sets due to stock config, but, haven't shot one with these on, so just dunno...  I really like mine.

Love my Peltors.
