Does anyone have recommendations on what to use to construct a target gong? I realize it's metal but I was curious about the thickness and specific materials. Also what sort of place would see such materials, I suppose scrap metal yards...Thanks, Jeff |
hard to get the right steel plate nowadays, as most of it is being diverted overseas for use in armor. |
Will depend on what you are shooting it with. |
That's a fine point. Let's assume primarily 5.56 and 7.62x51. |
| I think the two I have are something like 550 steel? Don't have the slightest idea what that means but the only rounds I have that will slightly dimple them are 7mm magnum. .308 and 5.56 don't even touch it. They are about 1/2" or so thick and have torch cut holes that I string rope through and hang from old realtor signs. They are about 1 foot square and I would say way about 25 to 30 lbs apiece. |
