If I buy a barrel, bolt, and upper receiver would anybody here be willing to help me out and attach the barrel for me and make sure the headspacing is right?  I live in pretty small town and the few gunsmiths ive talked to around here say they cant do it.

THe headspacing is set when the barrel extension is attached to the barrel. For the most part that means it is pre-set as few people purchase a bare AR barrel. Attaching the barrel to the upper receiver has no effect on the headspacing. You can buy a headspace guage from brownells yourself & check it. Pretty simple.

You'll need an AR wrench to attach the barrel to the receiver, again, a simple job with the proper tools.

True.  But id feel better if someone that had some experiance and knew what they were doing did it.

There is no headspace adjustment. If the headspacing is wrong you throw away the parts, because they were not manuf. properly.

This is great advice.  Yet, you do not heed it.

The TX hometown forum is very active. Even if you live a couple hours away it'd be worth it to watch someone do it properly the first time. It is *really* simple with a $40 action block and a vise and a barrel wrench. Take them a case of beer.

There are people here in ATL who would do it for you. I don't think you want to drive that far.

If they can't assemble an AR then they are not gunsmiths.

Thats what I thought.  But I live in a pretty small town, so I was thinking  that they usually only deal with bolt action hunting rifles, etc, etc, and didnt want to risk it.
