Went to Dunham's today, to buy a gun. They said The FBI is doing an upgrade of it's NICS computer system and it wont be back up until Monday afternoon at three. All gun purchases were being put on layaway. Pay all but a dollar, that way you don't own it until they run the check. Anyone hear about Nics being down till Monday? The manager said it was national.

FBI NICS 2005 Presidents' Day Weekend 24-Hour Outage Reminder
On October 12, 2004, the FBI NICS Section sent a letter out advising of a planned
Section maintenance outage. The letter stated that the FBI has scheduled the power outage to
begin on Sunday, February 20, 2005, at 3 p.m. EST and end on Monday, February 21,
2005, at 3 p.m. EST. This interruption is required to commission and test new electrical
equipment for the electrical distribution system that services the FBI NICS Section. The
installation of the new equipment will improve the operational reliability of the electrical system
that provides power to the NICS. During the interruption, no NICS transactions will be
processed through the call centers, through NICS E-Check or the NICS Customer Service.
The FBI NICS Section apologizes for any inconvenience this outage may cause and
assures you that we are committed to providing quality services to you to ensure the timely
transfer of firearms to law-abiding citizens.
Should you have any questions regarding this outage, you may contact the FBI NICS
Section FFL Liaison Specialist, Ms. Giget M. Stover, at (304) 625-7387. As always, the FBI
NICS Section appreciates your cooperation and continually strives to ensure high customer
service standards are maintained in order for you to process firearm background checks without
delay.

I think I remember seeing something about the NICS system being down for a day or two in the latest FFL newsletter the BATF sends out.

I was just at Gart Sports and overheard the gun counter guy tell a customer he'd have to come back Monday afternoon to buy his Ruger 1022. Something about the system being down.

I meant to tell you guys about that last night and forgot. It's just routine yearly maintenance for 24 hours.

If they can't get in in three days, you get your gun anyway.
