So I have been reading about the horror stories about Remington's Quality Control lately. I saw it first hand yesterday. I have been looking for a 308 to shoot all the cheap surplus ammo I have been getting lately for my AR10. So I went looking for another 308 yesterday. Looked at a nice Remington Super Preadator 700, but the one I looked at at the counter was 22-250. Nice gun, on sale, guy said he had a 308 version in the back. I was all stoked to get a new rifle, he comes back, pulls the brand new rifle out of the box. The barrel had big gouges out of the metal where the flutes were. These gouges were not due to shipping problems, they were way too big and deep. It looked like someone took a carbide tool and carved out the edges of the flutes. I can't believe that Remington didn't catch this, it was so obvious and it looked terrible on a brand new rifle. The salesman just shook his head, said this was the only one they had and they were going to send it back to Remington. So I ended up buying a Browning BLR Lightweight lever action in 308. Too bad for Remington, cause I would have probably bought that rifle if it hadn't been FUBAR. |

I have a few Rem 700's with no problems. However, two I've seen in the last couple of years have had the bore off center by a bunch...15-25 thousandths..... enough that it was easily visible to the naked eye. One was a current model Titanium in .308 & the other was a mid 80's model 700 BDL SS Synthetic. It's not just Remington though, plenty of Winchester CRF with feed problems, Rugers with bad head space, etc.... Overall Q/C has gone to crap across the board it seems. People are just there to collect a check these days & have very little pride in their work anymore. YMMV, Oulufinn |

We had a member here who works for Remington, haven't seen him post in a long time. The way he explained it was a crew of Bean-Counters have taken over the company and QC isn't high on their lists of priorities. He is afraid that these bean counters are going to run Remington into the ground like the one's did to Winchester . I personally saw a Remington 700 in Walmart with the worst crown that I have ever seen. Pretty sad when a company with so much history and a reputation in the past of making tack drivers is reduced to making half rate stuff. |

Does this suprise you? With the bottom line being all that matters to manufactures of ANY thing you buy, you have to check out everything you buy so as not to get some POS!!! From cars to cell phones to blue jeans, you have to check them out. What about all the AR's out there with trouble added at the factory at NO extra charges!?! |

Bought a new Remington LTR a few years ago. Found that one of the headless screws covering the scope mount screw holes had snapped in half along the slot. With considerable difficulty, I was able back the screw out with a punch. I then found the reason it had snapped – the hole wasn’t fully threaded. And no doubt the employee who snapped the screw head knew that and just didn’t care. I was able to correct the problem since, luckily, I had a 6X48 tap and the hole wasn’t the front one which bottoms out into the barrel. Plus the rifle has occasional feed problems. I’ve never before in my life seen a stock bolt gun with feed problems!! That’ll probably be my last Remington! ![]() |

I have a few 700's old and new and have not had a problem. I do not know what to think about all the changed they did with the 700's now. There is not ADL they now mad a SPS , in its place but it has a hindged floor plate. the bdl has iron sites on it with wood stock. ect.. makes me wonder why they changed things up like they did. Mt Hunter but in my eye they put out one hell of a good gun. |

Last year I purchased a new LSS 338 Ultra Dog it had more (serious) problems than I had ever seen in one rifle, I wrote it off as the one that gets out once in a while that shouldn't but does. Purchased a Model 700 BDL chambered for the 300 Win Mag early this year this one had a very weak ejector about the time I got it working the extractor failed. These were my last Remingtons and I do mean my "last". |
OH MY GOD!!! This happened at Sportsmans Warehouse in Kennewick didn't it! I was going to buy the Rem 700 VSF they had there but the barrel was canted. I went in again to buy the new one they got it was all chewed up. Who did you talk to? I talked to Andrew about it and he said they're getting a new one in 3-4 weeks. Digital |

I will officially open up a Remington Amnesty program starting tonight. I'll take the offensive specimens off your hands for $20 plus shipping. Seriously though.... I love my 700 BDL SS, my cousin and brother both love theirs... EVERY manufacturer cranks out a few bad ones... and you only hear about the BAD ones. |

I was at Ft. Benning a few years ago working on some .50's at the Sniper School and the Ranger Batt when one of the guys from the Sniper Locker at the Ranger Bt came into the arms room to collect up and case every Knight SR25 to ship back. The bores weren't concentric with OD of the barrel. When the Rangers would put the can on the rifle and fire a rd, the projectile would blow off the end of the suppressor. The barrels on the SR25's at the time were furnished by......ta da! Remington. Word is now Knight uses Mike Rock barrels, or did for awhile. |
| I had two POS Remingtons and won't ever buy another Autoloader from them as long as I live. Both my 597 (22lr) and a 7400 in 30-06 both broke extractors like candy and I've wasted several hours of my life fishing through range grass looking for the accompanying parts. Not to mention the money I wasted shipping the bolt assemblies back and forth for repairs that were faulty. Sorry fellas but they can keep their Remington Country. |

I have seen it with quite a few different manufactures, not just remington... A few off the top of my head... winchester -- recieved a coyote where the reciever wasnt finished being machined. Found this by taking it out of the box, attempting to put the bolt in, it slid about 2/3rd of the way in and stopped.. it was bent or anything, it just was not completely machined. remington -- had a few bent barrels, a couple with cracked stocks or very poor accuracy because the recoil lug was slightly offcenter. kimber (rifle)-- recieved one with an unfinished stock charles daley -- recieved a shotgun that was rusting ruger -- one of my personal rifles, had excessive headspace was streching casses very badly. mossberg ssi -- looked like it was tossed in the back of my pickup truck for about 2 months due to very poor packaging. |
Yes, Sportsmans Wharehouse in Kennewick, WA It was a nice rifle, but it sure had some problems. |

My 700 Varmint came with a huge blem in the bluing on the barrel. I drove over an hour and a half one way to an Authorized Remmington dealer to have him tell me "Yep, that is a huge blem and it shouldn't have left the factory". I had to twist his arm to get him to send it back to have them fix it. I waited about 6 weeks and I finally got a phone call to come and pick it up. It was fixed, but a month later, I noticed this white stuff coming out from between the reciever and the barrel. Not wanting to loose the rifle for another month and a half, I took it to a local gunsmith who told me that they must have not taken the barrel off the reciever to re-blue it and that the white stuff was a corrosion process going on in the threads of the barrel and reciever. He tried to fix it by re-dunking the rifle in a neutralizing bath, but that was all he could do at the time. I ended up taking to a another gunsmith who finally got it stopped and did a really nice job accurizing it for me. In my immediate family, we have 2 PSS (one in .308 and one in .243), 3 XP100 (2 in .35 Rem, 1 in .223), 1 XP100R (.35 Rem.) an 870 SP and an 1100 and my 700 Varmint. My experience happened in 1990. |
