Tried going there yesterday and saw the line was out the door.  Is it worth going?

No chain Hepatitis dispensary is worth waiting in line outside.

I went about 4:30 P.M.(Central)yesterday.  What time of day is a good time to go?

I liked it. I ate like a pig, sampling everything I could...not quite gourmet, but quite edible.
I would guess each franchise will vary, but you should try it once and decide.
I hate lines too and usually opt for a less busy time.  Even so, the line moves ahead ok.
The small plates caught me off guard, but you can get more later.
A few freezer bags discreetly hidden in a pocket may come in handy.
You must be real hungry by now, waiting for an answer!

All you can eat buffet with steak and prime rib, ours is always full. I usually end up getting a huge plate full of meat everytime I go.

It's good.  I had the "Ultimate Bacon cheeseburger " and the "Cookie Monster" for dessert.  Mmmmmmm

Someone I know pointed this out to me. It seems that when most of the Golden Corral's customers walk out of the door, the floor rises six feet. For some reason, I generally find that to be true.

The one nearest to me (~70mi) has food that is pretty bland. I tried it once or twice. Now I find anywhere else.

I worked there (unfortunately) and, yeah, the food's alright, but keep in mind the managers treat their employees like shit.  The "waiters" make waiter wages ($2.13/hr) so it's expected that they at least make enough in tips to make minimum wage ($5.15 in TX).  You may not see it like that, but the so-called wait staff at Golden Corral have to bust their ass to no end (more than I've ever had to work at a restaurant!  And I've worked at actual restaurants before).

I know that wasn't what you were asking about, but I'm just saying try to have some sympathy for them, as long as they give you good service.

To answer your question, it was always dead at the one I worked at between 3 and 4:30, then 8 and 9 (closing time) when all the old folks have gone to bed.  Don't EVER go on Valentine's day or Mother's Day because everyone and their extended families will be there allowing their children to wreak havoc.

I actually want to start one soon.  They are amazing earners.  The problem is you need $1.5 million to start.  They will take in enough to turn a profit of $500k a year.  Thats not too shabby.

That's interesting to know. I don't usually tip at places where I have to get my own food and if I do, I only tip half as much as usual.

Fried chicken isn't bad.  I went with a Scottish guy that said it was "brilliant".  So it's got that going for it, which is nice...

Cheap with the steak?  Heck, I asked for a very small piece and the cook gave me about 12 ounces.  I wanted to sample a little of everything and got loaded with meat instead.

No.  My parents love it.  I hate it.  People go there who should not be allowed out in public.  They stand in your way, get in your way, breath through their mouths, kinda like going ot the fair.

If you go when they are not busy, the food has been up too long and dries out.  If you go when they are busy, they will be out of what you want, every time.

Spend a couple dollars more and have some properly prepared food, when you want it.

The old folks love it.  The average tab is under $10 a person for dinner, drinks and tax.  You cant beat that even at McDonalds these days.  Not for the same amount of food. And remember this is America where you supposed to eat like youre pregnant.

Wasn't there a thread on here where an ARFcommer got the shits and totally shit his pants in the bathroom? Had to call wife to bring a change of clothes. That thread was funny.

Buffets are a bad idea. Low income folks working them that do not care about anything. I have heard of the young punks pissing and putting stuff in the food. I have gotton sick there and hope to not go back.

Cleveland had one a few years ago that was always packed. It got shut down for health violations. It has since reopened and is packed again. Never attempt to go on Sundays when gluttony is the rule of the day for the (literally) truckloads of people who go there after a Sunday service.

I steer clear of buffets. Sanitary concerns aside, however, GC tops Ponderosa and you get more bang for your buck. Less than $10 will get you access to more food than a Guatemalan village sees in 9 months.

Here in the Atlanta area we had someone die from the food they ate @ Golden Corral!!!!

It was in Cobb County, some of the GA folks may remember that one.

Traced it back to some "unsanitary" workers in the back.  Surprised?  I was not.

Fricken' shame, go out to eat dinner and you die days later from someone's lack of sanitary habits.

That particular GC is now open.

Best Golden Corral I've ever eaten at was in Bristol, Va.  It was fish night, man those catfish were good!  Wish they had them here in the Northeast.

Their rotissery(sp) chicken and mashed potatos are good. Otherwise I hate it.
