I just received an e-mail from my friend Mike McNaughton. You've probably seen him either in pictures from articles about him running with President Bush or perhaps during a moment of Bush's speech at the RNC.

dcmilitary article

Here is the e-mail:

Hi Everyone,

I’m participating in the event of a lifetime and I’m writing you today to ask for your help. By donating to my fundraising goal, you will partner with me in helping people with physical disabilities realize their dreams. Your donation will go to the Challenged Athletes Foundation, an incredible 501c3 non profit organization that provides grants to athletes with a physical disability.

When I arrive on race day, I’ll bring my usual gear. But many of the athletes your funds support swim with no limbs – others use hand cycles to bike or use artificial limbs to run. Like me, the challenge is to finish, but for them the obstacles are much greater. The challenge these athletes endure everyday is not one related to their disability but to funding.

It costs a lot of money for these artificial limbs that help them run. It takes special training for a person with no limbs to swim. And it costs about $2,500 to purchase a hand cycle to carry them through the hills. My goal is to raise money to help support these athletes in their mission to overcome their obstacles. I am asking you to partner with me today and make a donation through my web site link below. You can be a part of this special experience and make a dream come true.

Follow This Link to visit my personal web page and help me in my efforts to support Challenged Athletes Foundation or raceforareason.kintera.org/mikesrun
Please send this e-mail to other people you know. This is very important to me because of my own challenge……………………………….

Thank you for your support,

It's a good cause that I can personally relate to so I'll be dropping a donation. I figured I would throw this out for anyone else who doesn't mind contributing to a noble cause.

Thanks guys.

Wow, thanks for the opprotunity to give support where it's really needed.

You're welcome... I'm glad you see it as a good cause. I hope more people do.

A while back I promised Mike I would design him some sort of logo similar to the one I have in my profile...

I'm working on it now and it seems to be coming out pretty well. I'm basing the design off of Malcolm Grear Designer's 1996 Olympic Pictogram of a runner. Naturally I'm tweaking it to be a little more gimped up, by putting a prosthetic running leg on it. The original image I'm working with is tiny though, so it's tough getting it just right.

Anywho, thanks in advance to anyone who supports Mike on this one.

Maybe we could get one of the Mods to tac this up on top?  Or maybe cross post it in the Woman's forum.  We ladies could use another project!

Thanks again Pathfinder!  Patty

Sounds like a plan. I'll copy it over to the women's forum now. Thanks Patty.
