I'm looking for a good video/picture editing program that I could use to make slideshows with music, etc. that could be posted on the internet and shared with others. I've used Adobe products before like Photoshop and Image Ready and I'm somewhat familiar with Encore Pro, etc. I've thought about using Macromedia Flash or something and instead of using cartoons that I make, I would import pictures. I don't really do much video recording of myself, so the little video work that I would do with the program would just be editing from existing clips. Any information would be great. ETA: The programs I have now are: Photoshop, ImageReady, Macromedia Freehand, Fireworks, DreamWeaver, and Extension Manager... If I could make a slideshow with music using any of these, please just notify me of which ones to use. |

Man do I have the program for you. I love it, and it's free. I was in the same spot as you - looking just for the same type of app - and I found this thing and it is more than I could ask for. You still need a program like photoshop if you want to edit photos, but for creating cool slide shows out of still photos, this is perfect. Microsoft Photostory 3 If you want to see 2 videos I made from stills I took with my digital camera using MS Photostory 3, download: Pics I took of my college on strike with music and ProtestWarrior operation with music and narration |

Let me be sure what you're asking for... you want to make a video using still photos, right? Photostory is the app to use. I do video for a living, I use Pinnacle Liquid Edition (blows Adobe Premiere away) and I do quite a bit of photo and graphics editing also in Adobe Photoshop CS. But for putting together a bunch of pics as a nice video, Photostory is great. No-nonsense interface, not bloated with things you don't need. But it lets you add music and narration and the best part is the way it lets you move within the image, Ken Burns style. One problem I did have is that it doesnt' let you alter the volume of the music while you narrate - if I really need that amount of control, then I will open up Pinnacle. |

Unfortunately, I am one of those special individuals that have a characteristic that prohibits them from downloading Service Pack Two... which also prohibits me from doing other things. I tried Photostory but Microsoft is getting better with their authentication algorithms. |
Arrrrrgggghhh Matey. |

VirtualDubMod Hompage - virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/ I don’t know if it’s is what you’re looking for, but I’ve been using virtualdubmod for over a year new. It’s a free program that can open, compress and edit all sorts of videos. I don’t think it has much capability as far as making a video out of still photos, but if you have video segments that you want to make a movie out of, I highly recommend it. |
Nice kneejerk response, have you tried Photostory? Did you read his post? Do you know what he is trying to do? Premiere is the wrong program for his needs (and the wrong program for anyone who wants to videoedit for that matter). Software assesment shouldn't be some brand-loyalty logo-lovefest (or hate for that matter). When Microsoft happens to be the ones who offer a good solution, use it (esp. when it's free) - hell, odds are they bought it from a decent developer outright anyway. If you're interested in actual video editing, Pinnacle Liquid Edition is highly recommended, unless you just want to jump on a bandwagon with Adobe. Final Cut, sure if you want to use the exact same toolset as every other Mac user. By the way, do Mac users have a single other option for video editing? ETA: You sound like a Mac user, recommending FCP. Why jump into this thread anyway, just to bash MS and try to dissuade someone from using an app you've never even laid eyes on? Thanks for solidifying our perceptions of Mac users and their decision-making techniques. |
Special = you stole it all, eh ![]() Photoshop alone is around 600 bucks..... Some chunk of change in Adobe software you got there for a high school student ![]() |

Funny how every new version of Lightwave is $450.00-800.00 even though they keep the same algorithms. Furthermore, should an individual have to buy multiples of the same product for different computers? I have bought Adobe Premier, Photoshop, and Lightwave for the wedding photography and video company that my uncle and I own. I'm not going to pay a company more money when I already bought their product once. I took the software from our business computers and put it on my personal computer. |
I'm not going to parse your copyright rational, I've actually got a pretty good argument against it myself, but for practical reasons, you'll find it well worth every penny to actually go legit with the underlying OS, whatever you choose. Go ahead and spring for XP Pro. |
| You guys should check out dvinfo.net they have a great forum and are always glad to help |
