I read:
Under what conditions would that happen if it is true?

Try standing behind and off to one side a little the next time someone touches one off at the local range....Close enough
|
I saw a guy get stuck in the chest by the mainspring of an M240B once, had the damn thing stick into his chest and get medevac'd not a pretty sight but he's fine now with a cool scar |
Hahaha, ouch!

| I recently heard the same thing, from a .50 gunner. Claimed that if a .50 passes by close enough, it's taking some skin with it. Might have some truth to it, weren't there stories of abrams firing 120mm shells down narrow city streets, and sucking iraqis out from behind their cover, into the middle of the street? |

Ok this might sound stupid... Is it possible that while in flight it can disrupt enough air pressure around it to hurt you if the projectile passes by your head? *Flame suit on* ![]() Edit: Also I have seen some high speed videos of tank shells in flight. There was a big disturbance of air around the shell while it was flying. I don't think I would want to get hit by that either. Could that part of the projectile in flight be dangerous or fatal? If this cannot happen with a .50 cal, can it happen with a modern tank shell? I do not plan to have my friend shoot a bullet past my head to find out.

I was looking at some forum and they had the picture of the .50 cal headshot to a suicide bomber (I will not show it because I saw it here first and yes, it is graphic). Some guy chimed in that the .50 cal can kill you even if it just passes by you. This was likely just a "Joe-Blow" who had heard it on the history channel. I have never heard that before. I thought you all might know. |
I asked my SWAT gun guru and he said:
So the verdict is: ![]() Unless you have a vid of the guy getting sucked out of the alley. |
