| how many MOPAR buffs out there??? PIX's????????? |
Oh yes. I talked to my dad last year after he bought a new 300C. His evaluation: "I haven't drive a car this awesome since my Coronet". |
'72 Newport Town & Country Hey, it does have the 440 bigblock........'79 Magnum XE 318v8 <edit to add> Previous Mopars (my own & family): '78 Magnum XE 360 '72 New Yorker 440 '73 Duster 225 /6 Leaning Tower Of Power! '75 & '76 Dodge vans 318 & 360 '68 & '73 Dodge trucks ('68 3/4T, '73 1/2T) both 318 plus a few AMC 4wd Eagles in the mix....they count as MOPARs now. Seems the 318 wins the RiffRandall engine popularity vote. 2 late B bodies & 2 early C bodies, only 1 A body. I'd love to find an old mid '60s to mid '70s Dart or Valiant, slant 6 (pref with 3 on the tree stickshift). Not a macho musclecar or posh luxobarge but practically unkillable. |
![]() Got a '68 Dodge Coronet 440 (440 was the model #, not the engine) waiting on me when I get back home. Great car, really miss driving it. It's going to be recieving a 451 stroked 400 block and a 5 speed when I get home ![]() ETA:Forgot to mention my first vehicle, an ' Dodge 1/2 Ton w/ a 360/727 setup. Hauled ass, still keep it around as a work truck. Have also owned a '49 Dodge Truck and a '72 New Yorker (440 car), and more parts than I care to think about. Gotta love 'em! |

Had a '67 Dart GT with 273 Charger Engine, Rally suspension, 12" Polara Police drums (whoa was as good as go, disk brakes not yet on Mopars), 727 automatic (the large one), Suregrip rear end. The "Charger" designation at that time denoted the really high performance engines. That same year the Dodge Charger was introduced, which was essentially a fastback version of the Coronet. Due to the confusion of names, the next year the hi perf engines were renamed "Magnums". That little 273 mill (same block as a 318, smaller bore) had 10.5:1 compression, Carter 625 CFM AFB carb, dual point distributor, and a factory Racer Brown cam. Loped so bad, at stop lights you had to shift to neutral and speed it up a little. Called the factory, asked what was the redline, they asked that I try to keep it under 7000. Top end was 145 mpg. Only 500 of those engines were built, 250 in Dart GT's, 250 in Baracudas. That was the last of the 273 Chargers. In '68 they introduced a similar engine known as the 340 Magnum. |
My oldest brother bought a `67 Barracuda new with one of those engines. It was a renowned badass in our area - especially after a few more mods. It got totalled while parked a couple of years later and he replaced it with a `69 `Cuda (first year of the `Cuda name, used only on big blocks) with a 383. It was pretty dangerous on the tires they had back then. For some reason I've never figured out, he traded his `69 in on a new `71 Datsun 510 wagon even up in 1971 when he got married. I could have killed him!!! My first was a `68 Charger R/T 440 automatic, which I bought in 1978. Wish I still had that one too.... |

MOPAR OR NO CAR, ALWAYS OUTNUMBERED, BUT NEVER OUTGUNNED! Got a '68 formula S barracuda, with a 340 in it. '78 Chrysler Cordoba 360 hat No Corinthian Leather, though ...................... Why can't I make bland, practical automobile choices, like normal people ? MOPAR OR NO CAR. |

My first car was a 65' coronet 440, it was literally an "Old Granny's" car (My old granny's). I got it with just 32,000 granny driven miles on it. Replaced the brakes, tuned the engine till it purred like a kitten. Then on the way home, I was blindsided by a drunk in a ford van. Hit it so hard it pushed the dash into the roof. My next mopar was a little later in high school. A 1971 Charger SE Brougham, 400Cubes, hide away headlights, gt dash....god!what a great car....god!what a pussy-getting car.....God! I wish I still had that car! Today I'm in the process of putting my latest MOPAR on the road. She's a 1966 Coronet 440. from AZ(no rust!), and she's going back to her semi-metallic silver w/ black interior. With a 500cube motor in her, a 727 w/ a nice converter....... and no mater what the wife says......... She's NEVER leaving! It's MOPAR, or No-car Tall Shadow
|
Nope, 40 in may, but for some reason my circles run GM. No ford hotrods, either. Chevelles (Mine) Novas, and GTOs. |
I was that way too for a while. Was raised on GM's, but even GM guys know the reputation of Mopars. I guess it's just a matter of exposure. |
Is that a real AAR cuda? |
If possible, put a 440 in that A or E body. If you're going to go through all the trouble of an engine swap, make it a foe-foe-dee. Of course, one engine in the shop is better than two in as-of-yet not located junkers. |

Hey, it does have the 440 bigblock........
