| What is the story with this thing? After hearing all the hype my old lady and I rented it to see what all the fuss was about. While watching I wasn’t really all that excited about it. Thought it was mildly entertaining at best. Now weeks later we catch ourselves talking about it, and reciting movie lines. The local morning radio show is always doing sound drops, and referencing the film. Seems to me that the movie is funnier and more appealing now, then it was when I watched it. Can’t shake the idea and wanted to know your thoughts. Flame away. |

We watched it this weekend. The wife got up in the middle and said call me if ANYTHING amusing turns up. I finished watching it thinking it was going to get amusing any second now waiting waiting, nothing. On the plus side she also rented Garden State for herself thinking I wouldnt like it. I dont know if watching Napoleon Dynamite set me up for thinking even a semi crappy movie was ok but I can say garden Garden State was pretty funny. www2.foxsearchlight.com/gardenstate/ |
+1 and you have to be in the mood for it, gosh! |
I agree it's a generation things...but from what I've seen if you are older than 28 your out of the generation that thinks it's funny. I'm 29 and that it would stupid and boring as hell. The only funny part was when they shot the cow right as the school bus full of kids went by. |

"Are you Pedro's cousins with the sweet hookups?" I rented it this past Saturday. I thought it had some pretty funny moments... Great quotes. All in all, a decent rental. Make sure you watch the deleted scenes though- there are some great ones. (How about the cow shooting scene? The tupperware scene where Uncle Rico asks the guy to try tearing the plastic- he can't- and then how Kip handles it... Pretty funny IMHO) |
| I'm not sure when it was supposed to take place, but if you go to any high school in Montana, North Dakota, or Wyoming it's not much differant from the movie. Really I thought it was supposed to be modern, ha, ha, ha. (I'm from Montana). Except for the Uncle saying something about 1982. The humor is real subtle and it isn't one of those blatant in your face comedy movies. Kip talking about chat rooms makes me think it takes place in the mid 90's. The funny thing is almost everyone knew someone like that and people like that in high school, you might not have been friends with them, but you knew them. |

I couldn't shake the notion that a lot of what happened in that movie was a metaphor for something else, but they had to make it PG for the kiddies. Example: Kip was really gay, and talking to dudes online... And Uncle Rico was sleeping with his clients while in their houses selling them plastic-ware. And that perhaps Napoleon was retarded. That despite it being set in the current day, it really took place in 1983. Funny thing is, I knew people who at times acted like some of the people in the movie.

If you didn't like it the first time, watch it again. It's one of those movies that gets better the more you watch it. It's just a random movie, and you learn to appreciate it for the randomness. Kind of like Strictly Ballroom. |
I gradutated un 1980. I thought it was mildly amusing for the most part, but funny as heck in many places. I can't get a woman because I have no skills. Chicks like guys with skills. ![]() That & when he slapped his brother I almost fell on ther floor laughing. |
I thought it was pretty at first but watched it all the way through. Its strange but a very catchy flick.Didnt Pedro and Napoleon look like they smoked aout 2lbs of weed the whole time? |
