Where can I find a good deal on a fire proof gun safe.  I'm looking for something that can hold up to 20 long guns, but anything smaller is fair game too.  Thanks

Depends on what you mean by "Good Deal".

Plan on at least $1500.00 for something big enough to handle 20 long guns that is "Really" fireproof. They do not come cheap.

Tack

No I was thinking in the $500 range or so.  It does not have to hold up to a fuel fire for 5 hours.  Just standard fire proof/resistant will do

Find an old chest freezer.

I just aquired an old bank safe for free and plan on making it into a gun safe, I just have to figure out how I am going to move the 10,000 pound beast. It will have to go in the basement for sure but hauling it is going to be a chore.

If you can truely wait......   Go right after Thanksgiving or or Xmas, unless there is a really good sale around.....     Got my Liberty for well over 1/2 off  and suits my needs perfectly    Can hold anywhere between 8-18 guns........  Diferent shelvings movable........

Check Wally World.  You might find one of those Sentry's they were selling.  Or, you could just get a non fireproof one and line it with some sheetrock.

I just bought an American Security Mdl 6032 for about $900.00.  It is UL listed fire resistant 1350 degrees for 45 minutes and is about industry standard.  You may be able to find a used one for less if you scour e-bay or something.

It is about the price of one decent AR-15, if you have 20 guns to secure, it is a bargain.

Use a closet and put 3/4 inch drywall all around with a door.  $50 tops

I bought a 17 cu.ft. (8-15 long guns, IIRC) Centurion by Liberty just after Thanksgiving.  Liberty's website describes it as an 'entry level' model.  The shelving can be configured to meet different needs, its fire rated to 1200 degrees for 20-30 minutes,  & weighs 350 lbs empty.  MSRP is about $870 (again, IIRC) but I paid $399 at a local farm store...couldn't pass it up.

The only suggestion I'd make is to be sure you get a safe that's big enough.  More than one manufacturer's website that I looked at cautioned their prospective customers about this...especially since the common wisdom seems to indicate that any size safe you might buy NEVER holds as many long guns as the manufacturer states it will in their brochures.

Shop around, think about any future acquisitions you might make & buy accordingly.

My .02.

I picked up a browning 28 gun safe from Gander moutain out the door for $1055 with taxes. Home Depot right now is selling i think a sentry 16 gun safe non fire proof for $250. I dont know if that is nation wide though or just the local store getting rid of stuff.

Check out Sportsman Steel Safe Co., Long Beach, Kali.

I got one with 2300 degree ceramic insulation. Holds 24 long guns, along with 2 shelves on top, 1" locking pins, 1/2" hard plate, Cobra relocker, Sargent & Greenleaf Spyproof lock, 2 pistol hangers on the back wall, a lifetime breakin warranty, groovy carpet on the floor and very slick gold leaf detailing on the door, shipped from Kalifornia to NH for $1124 US.

I have it bolted to my basement floor and I pity the poor bastard that wants to break into the damned thing... He'll die of old age before he gets in.

Its a really good looking safe. The gold leaf buckin bronco on the door kicks ass.

I bought a discontinued 24 long gun safe from Walmart 2 years ago and went to my local heating A/C wharehouse. They sell a material that is 3/4" thick called "firewall" They use in in oil burner furnaces and it comes in 24X24" sheets. I lined the inside of the safe with it. I knocked down the 24 long gun capacity down to 18 but I only paid around $600 for the whole deal.
Who knows what the specs are on it but I have seen this firewall shit in action in boilers and furnaces and it takes a 2000+ degree flame head on for between 0-30 min at a time and keeps the outside cool enough to put your hand on it the whole time.

yes, but that furnace is making the heat inside and it is being dissipated outside to a larger environment than the few cubic feet that would be INSIDE a gun safe.  Thats still a great idea though.  Not to wish you bad luck, but if your house ever burns let us know how it holds up.  It very likely will do the trick.

That "firewall" stuff is often called "sheetrock". Its not the same as fireproofing in a safe. Do some research and you'll see the difference.

That stuff will NOT protect your valuables during a house fire.
