I am trying to troublshoot a problem with my laptop display and I don't know if it is software or hardware. I want to do a system restore but need to knw how to do it. Help! Thanks! |
If you are trying to fix a virus or spyware problem you can usually forget about system restore being any help as the nastiest are likely in the restore point. If that is the case turn it off. If it is a driver problem which it sound like your may be try the driver rollback feature in Device Manager first. |

It's a Sony VAIO a couple years old, model GRZ610. I have an extended warr and it has been sent off a couple times b/4 for overheating. They fixed that but now the display is starting to act up. I offloaded everything important just a little while ago. If they can't fix it this time or it is going to be too expensive I get a new machine equivalent in technology. BestBuy ext warr is pretty decent that way. Looking at new LT's on the web right now..... Got any got ideas for a replacement under $1200? |
You almost certainly have a bad display line in the screen. They might be able to fix it; if your warranty is still good they will probably just swap out the display. If not under warranty repair cost might be high. Never buy a laptop with less than a 3 year warranty… unless you can afford to replace them soon that that. A 2 year old laptop is probably only worth a few hundred dollars at best, keep that in mind if you have to pay for repairs and keep in mind once you start having problems like this thing only tend to get worse. If you travel a lot I suggest the Dell 600m, it is light with good power and can be outfitted for around $1200. |
| Yeah, I know what you mean about the ext warr. I did purchase the 3 yr ext warr with full replacement within that period. They told me last time it went in they would replace it after the 3rd time it was shipped off. I think that if the display is bad, they will not replace due to cost and I should get a new machine. Hopefully! If not, I will buy a new one. I'm taking a look at the Dell machine you mentioned. |
