I'm looking for a secure holster for my full sized (5") 1911. Anyone have any experience with the Bianchi T6505 tactical holster? It looks a lot like their UM92-1 (universal military holster) with the optional thumb strap instead of the cover flap. Is the UM92 any good? How does it compare to the T6505? Should I get the drop leg or wear it on the belt? I have had trouble driving in the car with a belt holster - the hammer cut the leather upholstery and it's not too comfortable. |

Basically, I'm looking for a secure holster for my full sized (5") 1911. I want a holster with a thumb strap so the pistol is super secure. I want it for self-defense from animals (both two legged and four legged types) while shooting alone at a range. I want it to be comfortable and out of the way while working at the range (thin shovels, saws, hammers...that kind of work). I want comfort while driving for a few minutes from firing line to target pits. What's a good one? Anyone have any experience with the Bianchi T6505 tactical holster? IMO, for a 5" Govt model you're not going to find a good holster for comfortable driving. Either a crossdraw or shoulder would work best there. Certainly a dropleg will also work but you're gonna attract attention when you walk around with it, IMO. Some folks have 3-4 holsters for different activites & swap them as needed to wear. This might be your solution? Good luck. |

I would only wear the holster while at the range. It is for open carry while at the range, not for concealed carry. If I give up on the comfort while driving issue, would a drop leg holster be suitable for carrying while working around the range (shoveling, hammering, painting...)? |
A drop leg may be the best bet for what you're describing, IMO. Also a paddle such as Fobus would also be a good bet for a couple of reasons. A) You can take it off any time w/o undoing belts, etc. B) You can reverse it to your weak side should the physical work require it, i.e. get it out of the way. |
