I have only seen the last two episodes from the shield for the 3rd season.

I believe the 2nd season ended with vic and the guys around the huge pile of money and then dutch was investigating the money train.

now in this season i hear them talking about the money train but not actually discussing that dutch is after them.

was it forgotten in the 3rd season?

IIRC One of the guys, Lem or something like that, took all the money and burned it. Since they don't have the money anymore there is nothing to tie them to the robbery.

I didn't know Dutch was ever involved in the money train deal.   Thought the only thing he was into was women who weren't into him.

Not forgotten...just shoved to the side. There are several things that will make you go: UGH!! as the 3rd season comes to a close, including a distrubing side of Dutch that we thought we'd never see..... And they only have like 50K each left after the burning...I had a hard time not yelling at the TV that night!

First off, someone may want to add "Possible Spoilers" in the title, just incase someone who isn't up to speed and has just started following the show comes along.

Okay, the "Evil Dutch" event seems to be way over blown. I think it fits very nicely with his desire to be a great serial killer hunter. It's not just a career move for him, it's a real passion. That's why every homicide is a possible serial killer to him. The scene in question made me think of the Will Grahm character, the FBI profiler from the film(s) Manhunter/Red Dragon. He had that component in his psychological make-up that allows him to really get into the mind of the killer, and as a result is on the edge...teetering.
The killer told Dutch he'll never be successful because he's never seen life leave a persons eyes. Dutch killed the cat to somehow reach that level. If you recall, he freaked when he realized what he had done. Disturbing yes, but in the frame work of his make-up and the fact he was in a booth with a serial killer for lord knows how many hours. Just an opinion.

Vic said they had to sit on the money until the heat blew over. No spending, no nothing. "Cleetus van Damme's" girlfriend creates a crack and causes him to spend some money on a car. Vic flips. I do recall at one point the decide they're going to tie it up in real estate with a crooked Real Estate Agent, but it didn't pan out. They sit on the money and open a few new stories up....that's it all comes back to haunt them.

IIRC, a connection is made when the guy that they were following to set up the money train hit (the one that was in the fender -bender that asked Shane to be a witness) gets busted. Can't remember the details but Assavada (sp?) starts to put two and two together that the strike team was shadowing the money train before it was hit. And surfer boy does burn almost all the $$ b/c he thinks it is destroying the team & its members.

Let's not forget that Shane's psycho-bitch girlfriend steals some of the money and gives it to her mom.
