IMHO it has to be Robert De Niro. The Most Impressive Bio Who do you think is the most talented actor / actress? |
|
Christopher Lee BIO The man has been in hundreds of movies. He's been Dracula, a Bond Villian, a Star Wars Villian and a LOTR villian. He was also some kind of British Intellegence Commando during WW2 as well. |
He does possess a ubiquitous talent. I certainly appreciate his work. |
I'll be damned. I've never heard of him. Do you think he's the most talented of all time? |
I own most of his movies just because they're always so good [for the exception of The great Tantambaums [sp] which I wish someone would give me back that hour and 1/2 of my life! You know another great actor but he plays such silly roles he will never fully be appreciated is Christopher Lloyd. He's the 'mad' scientist from Back to the Future. Patty |
No sir. If you put forth the effort to delve into Mr. De Niro's accomplishments, you'd realize that you're far from accurate. |
He played Saruman in LOTR, and Scaramanger (sp??) in The Man With The Golden Gun. Yes, he's probably one of the best actors I have ever seen. I have yet to see him give a poor performance, he was the only actor in Attack of the Clones that didn't suck horribly! |
Agreed. Jack Nicholson Al Pachino DeNiro Every screenplay they get is written FOR them. They play themselves. I still say that Phillip Hoffman, Ed Norton and Benicio Del'Toro are the most "talented". Look at the Roles Hoffman has had: www.imdb.com/name/nm0000450/ Totally different character each time. Talented Mr. Ripley Big Lebowski Boogie Nights Almost Famous Punch Drunk Love Cold Mountain etc. No fluff. |
I won't argue about the amount of talent out there. Ed Norton has portrayed some very impressive roles. He's executed his varied parts exquisitely. |
Thanks for the exposure. |
Please. He's had better, more challenging roles than any actor around. Your critique is shallow. You probably prefer more of the "leading man type", huh sweetie? |
His roles in the movies you've mentioned are prime examples of his talent. Why do you think he's failed to achieve a leading role? |
My best evidence is linked in the first post of this thread. |

I think Robert Duval is the best actor. He actually becomes the character. I think Meryl Streep is probably the female equivilent. If you ever watch John Wayne movies you see that the character is playing John Wayne. Here is a marine, pilot, cowboy, yadda, yadda as John Wayne. DeNiro, Costner, Stallone, Arnold, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman and many others are simply celebrity actors. Here is a cowboy, sheriff, secret agent, baseball player, agent etc as (pick one of the names above). Gene Hackman is an interesting actor. He has been in just about every movie ever made I think. I think ubiquitious is the best word for him. Christopher Walken??? Please I haven't seen too many Kevin Spacy movies (sorry, too gay for me). |
Then you're bringing a squirt gun to a machine-gun shoot. |
He's no pretty boy, and he's no clown. He was essentially the lead in the role he played opposite deNiro in "Flawless". Not a great movie, though. |
Shallow? - say, wasn't he in Shallow Hal? Oh - no, it was that other guy. I really liked the guy in Mr. Ripley (The scene where he catches Damon peeping on the boat was awesome - I still use that "Tommy, Tommy, Tommy" line all the time), and Boogie Nights where he played the guy with the sexual identity crisis (like a certain member on this board with 10k + posts) - but that's it. The dude has peaked as a minor co-star. At best he can look forward to such future roles as "Sportsfan #1" in some beer commercial. |

I would say Kevin Spacey. Watch "The Ususal Suspects." His performance is incredible. And I think Gary Sinise is pretty damn good. Another to watch is (and I'm gonna get flamed for this)... Hugh Jackman Of the old standards, Jack Nicholson, Gene Hackman, etc.... Woody |

away.
