I have been told a .44magnum will crack an engine block, is this true? If a .44 will do the job I would assume a .308 would as well? Is a .50bmg neccessary to stop veicles smaller than a semi/deisel or armored vehicle? Does the effect of putting a large bullet through the engine stop a car immediately or gradually? What if ant other scenarios than a vehicle interdiction or barricaded suspect would Police have for a .50bmg? I was under the impression police snipers seldom work at ranges beyond 100yds. |

Don't assume any common rifle round will stop a vehicle by shooting the block. You coulr put a hole in the block and you may still get run over if none of the internals were affected. Go for the passenger compartment. What rifle (or most pistol) round wouldn't go through any part of the passenger compartment. Someone needs a "car of truth" to go with the box of truth. An "electrical" shot would probably have to take out the battery AND the alternator to stop the ignition and the vehicle would still roll (depending on the speed) for quite a way. A radiator shot wouldn't get you out of immediate danger, It could be a while before the engine seizes. |
It went through the hood- from the side- so maybe a valve cover or sumpthin'...
