Okay, time for a little gripe....

It has become a new (?) custom to edit someone's quote and post, "There, fixed it for you."

Example:

I support our troops.

Then someone comes along and posts:

I support hate our troops.

And says, "There, I fixed it for you."

No, you didn't.

What you did was to mis-quote the original author.  That is not what he posted.  If he had wanted to post that, then that's what he would have posted.

A Quote is an important thing to me.  And for someone to mis-quote what I said, is the same as lying, IMHO.

Am I the only one?

I have no problem if it is done to be humorous.  In all other cases, it is obnoxious.

I agree about the humor exception.

OMG.  Next to the sticky from Stryker regarding no more "stick it in her pooper, yada, yada, yada",  this is ridiculous.

Everyday this site gets more and more fuddy-duddy.

I've got it, how about no more humor or any posts about anything other than bullet caliber discussions and politics.

Get over yourselves.

I agree about the humor horror exception.

There fixed it for you.

(agreed and leave the humor to the professionals)

Can I put you down for a "No"?

I wasn't talking about a COC rule.  Just something that bugs me.

Didn't mean to cause you to soil yourself.

I would have to agree. It's disingenuous and not funny.

With the exception for when it's done to be funny.

As long as it's clear what was changed--"stealth changes" are strongly frowned upon, especially if taken several pages later, and not indicated to have been changed.  A simple addition, or correction is NBD, again, as long as it's clear what was done.

As long as I dont personally see anything wrong with it.... then it is absolutely cool to do.  As staff, I do it all the time, just to mess with people.

Gee, I have alot of stuff to worry about today. Fortunately, this isn't one of those things.
