The first time I saw it I laughed so hard I gave myself an asthma attack.

But don't expect it to be like any other movie you've seen before. It's not.

You have to watch the scene after the credits too. Kip and Lafawnduh's wedding.
12/22/2004 6:17:01 PM EDT

man...I was looking at that at the video store today.  Decided on Dodgeball instead.  Gonna have to check it out later...if only for the 'internet babe chat' scene.  That looked hilarious on the trailers.

for the sake of time, I will just copy and paste my last Napoleon post here:

Napoleon Dynamite is a great movie for people who love shit movies. Nothing about it is good except for Rex-Kwon-Do and the dance sequence. There was so much hype that I went in thinking I was going to see a funny movie and was mistaken.... fatally mistaken.

I was never so taken back by how bad it was. I only stayed in the second half hoping I would get my time'sworth and have some fulfillment knowing there was a point to the film, which there was not. I was later told that I should have gone in to the movie expecting nothing and thinking it was going to be bad. WTF?

Go into a movie hoping it is bad? Only then will it be good? If I expect a bag of rotten peanuts to taste like rotten shit on a squirrel carcass and it just tastes like some old peanuts, I suppose those were some great peanuts then. When you think you will get -1% and you end up with 1.3%, that is a badass 1.3%.

If I go into a movie I expect to be entertained, not surprised by how it wasnt just some guy in the theatre walking from seat to seat tearing your balls off with a wrench, which it almost was anyways. Some people tell me it is their favorite movie and I tell them they are stupid, and I explain to them why like I am now.

What is good about it? NOTHING. Is there a reason to see it? Yes. It was funny AFTER I saw it, like when you get in a car accident and afterwards you laugh at how funny of a face you made, or when you stub your toe how funny of a sound you made as the bone snapped in two.

Dont support Napoleon Dynamite. Watch entertaining movies. Dont support zero percent.

I don't know how it was overhyped. There really werent even any previews around here for it and I never heard anyone talking about it. I thought it was hilarious, but its a different kind of humor thats not for everyone.

saw it last night.  I have to admit, I don't usually like movies like this.  I enjoyed it though.  Just try to remember the dorks in high school--gives you a little insight into their sad little lives.  I got a few chuckles throughout the movie...laughed my ass of at the cow shooting scene--especially the kids' reaction on the bus!  My wife on the other hand...she laughed herself into tears through the whole movie.  I'm hoping Shaun of the Dead is as good...putting that in right now

Exactly.  You have to look at it like you were in high school, still.  Napoleon and his family are such dorks, it's hilarious.  I laughed my way through the whole movie.  Trying to get guys at work to watch it so we can all laugh about it.  Great movie.

It's a Liger...bred for it's skills and magic.

Saw it in the theater with my wife then took her home and make her to the side pony tail thing.

Funny as hell, if you have a sense of humor developed past hee-haw.

"you ever take it off any sweet jumps?"

the steak to the forehead scene is hilarious "that's what I'm talking about"

I got to the point where the woman tells her daughter she has to go with Napoleon to the dance, and I couldn't take any more.  The bus scene was the only overtly funny part in the movie to me up to that point.  I envisioned it being like Eyes Wide Shut.  At any moment it was going to get good, but I couldn't take the chance given how bad it was up until then.  So, I decided to keep an hour of my life.

Because, clearly, watching a dork rack his balls on a bicyclye top tube is "high-brow" humor.

The movie sucked big donkey balls.
And, oh yeah,

Preston, Idaho (where ND was filmed) is only 30 minutes away from where I live.  The portrayal of the nerdy kid who doesn't really fit in, combined with a portrayal of rural northern utah/southern Idaho just kills me.

Loved the movie.

+1 on the over-hype.

I swear, over the holiday weekend, I didn't talk to ONE that didn't mention how funny this ovie was and if I had watched it yet.

Sure I didn't see one commerical about but the hype was there through people I met over the last 2 weeks.

I thought it was funny but NOTHING near what people were hyping it up to be.

I saw it today.  It moved  a little slow at times.  It seemed like it was 1985 but with cell phones and chatrooms.  If you grew up in the '80s in the rural west you can definitely appreciate some of the stereotypes in the movie.

It was definitely one of those movies that is more fun to talk about then watch.  It will probably be a cult classic.

IT's mildly funny the day you watch it. It's kinda goofy.

the next day you  start quoting him and remembering stuff he does;  "get off me you bodaggett!"

a week later it's frickin hilarious and you gotta watch it again.

good show.

BTW, the music in the film was perfect.  Wish I hadn't loaned my copy out now.  Have a rampaging desire to watch again.

"It's the system I developed over two seasons in the Octagon [on ARFCOM?]."
