For those that don't know, the box set came out today. Length of the extended versions of the films: Fellowship of the Ring: 208 minutes Two Towers: 208 minutes Return of the King: 250 minutes TOTAL: 666 minutes Coincidence? |
| Just goes to prove my point. Peter Jackson sold his soul to the devil. That hairy little barefoot geek made three entertaining films (not as good as the books, of course) and now has more money than I could spend for the rest of my life. It kind of makes me sad, though. Today is the last day that I'll ever be excited about a movie coming out. Lord of the Rings is my favorite book, and I'll never be excited for another movie the way I was for these. Luckily I do have a life outside of my geekiness; it's the only thing that gets me through the day. |

Picked up my copy of the extended versions of the trilogy today. First I went to Barnes & Noble and they wanted $109.95 for the set. I told them that Best Buy had the same thing for $72.99, They just said :well, that's Best Buy for you!" I told them it wasn't worth paying another $40 even with my membership discount so I went to Best Buy. I am watching TROTK as I type this. I've already seen the death of Saroman. Very good! |
Spoil the hell out of it why don't ya? |
I was adding them up yesterday and the same thought crossed my mind. Certainly odd. |
It's really not that odd if you would sit down and watch the movies that he made prior to LOTR |
Go back to Best Buy and ask them for the refund they owe you. I got the boxed set off the Best Buy website for 49.95+ts&h. |
Um, excuse me bright boy. Most of the people that are going to but this DVD have already read the books many times over. Everyone knows that Sauroman dies in the book. Therefore, GO FLAME SOMEONE ELSE.
|
You would be suprised how many have not read the books. Or those that have read them, read them 20 years ago and don't remeber the details. I know several people that are getting the extended that have never read the books. Just a thought |
New footage that more accurately portrays the true story. Or at least brings the movies closer to the actual book. Were someone to make a dead on accurate version, I would say that the film would be at least 20 or 30 hours long. Good luck finding a studio to make that one. |
|
I ordered my Special Platinum Edition Extended Version this morning. There are two versions. The regular Plarinum Edition and the Collector's Platinum Edition. I got the Collector's version with the extra DVD highlighting the making of the symphonic score and the polystone miniature of Minas Tirith. I had to have the miniature Minas Tirith. Okay, okay, I'm a real geek. I know. |
SAY WHAT DRAC? $49.95? Link please. The lowest I have seen the boxed DVD extended set is $72.99 at bestbuy.com |
|
What's really scary is that apparently Elija Wood, Sean Astin and a few of the other guys shared a trailer with Ian! In the special features Elija Wood said something to the effect of, "We tended to stay at the other side of the trailer because he was such a great actor and we respected his space." I think we all know the REAL reason they stayed away. |
ROFLMAO |
$49.99 actually, but they are sold out right now...link is HERE. |
I think you may have the sets mixed up. The Return of the King gift box is $49.99, while the trilogy boxed set is the other price i think. |
True dat...drac must've gotten the ROTK gift box set, not the whole trilogy... |
|
And they didn't, Asshats. The hobbits return home, Sarumans revenge, and the battle-hardened foursome leading the hobbit uprising was the best part of the whole story. Why on earth would they cut out something so critical? Maybe combat vets leading the peasants against tyranny just isn't PC. |
Now that Jacksons done it, you're probably right. But it could be done, just like Band of Brothers... |
This full version of LOTR comes within a couple hours of BOB already. |

Jeez, you bloody yanks cant give us a break can you!!??? You are all just jealous because such a universally loved book was made primarily with Kiwi talent and skill. We obviously had to use yanks and poms for the hobbits because we arent short enough, and Elijah Wood can fit in a handbag. Jackson might be a hairy little barefoot geek, but we're all like that down here. You should see my Aunt, she looks like Bigfoots Mum. The only way New Zealand can validate itself as a nation is by sporting achievement and Lord of the Rings. Its been fifty years since Hillary conquered Everest, and eighty since Rutherford split the atom. Oh, yeah, bitches, that was us. So we havent had any wins for a while. Our All Blacks didnt win the Rugby World Cup last year so we had to take their coach out and shoot him. This is the only way we can feel good about ourselves these days. Please dont try and take LOTR off us!! So what if he made sweeping changes to the books. He can do what he wants. A hundred bajillion dollars at the box office cant be wrong. Oh, and by the way, Jackson is now remaking King Kong. In Wellington. Ha. |

I think the 666 thing was a coincidence (sp?). I really liked the Extended Edition. Yeah, yeah, I miss the Scouring of the Shire and all that, but it would take a really long time to put that all in. I loved the movie, best move I've ever seen IMO. And yes Paul, we all our jealous about LotR being made in New Zeland. Oh, and Hobbits are NOT 'teh ghey'!!!! |
I wish they had too... The Hobbit was the only book I was able to read and enjoy.. had to see the movie to get the story
Best Buy does not honor interent prices in the store... or at least I was told this when buying a water filter for my fridge. |

Alrighty then......
