Anyone suffer bursitis in the shoulder? Do you get a headache on the afflicted side and what works for the pain. I get some nasty throbbing headaches when I have a flareup.

As strong as you can handle it.  Ginger root is a natural anti-inflamitory and is good for the stomach, too much can't hurt you.

I eat it straight, get some at the local market for about $1

Have you tried DMSO on your shoulder?  I used to have bursitis in one of my legs.  The only thing I found that relieved the pain & stiffness was DMSO.  I used the roll-on type so I didn't have to get any on my fingers during application.  It was around 7 bucks at the local health food store.

I've had a couple of flareups in my hips and it hurts like hell.  I don't have any remedies to share, just sympathy.

If you get headaches with it also, you may want to include cervical radiculopathy ("pinched nerve" in your neck) in your differential diagnosis.  Heat and NSAIDS like Advil are a good start for either condition.

Most of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as Physical Therapy literature recommend ice for acute injuries and heat for flares/chronic conditions.
