I am thinking about buying a99 Chevy Blazer 4x4 for 6k. I want to know if  the blazer is any good. Also , what do the LS and LT mean?

I had a 95 LT. Lots of electrical problems, and persistant problems with the 4 -wheel drive system, the ABS system and the EGR valve. They're OK otherwise, nothing special.

LS and LT are the trim packages. LS is the standard package and LT is the fancier. Leather seats, ect.

I have a 01 Blazer.. only problem I had was that it lunched the air conditioning compressor.

I like the Blazer because off all the SUVs in the class, It rode the least like a truck.

I'd say go for it.

The S-10 line is funny, either they're peices of shit, or they're rock solid, not much in between.

It is a Chevy so it's going to have the best drivetrain in it's class.

The 4.3 can tow almost as much a V8 Dakota.

My wife has a '00 LS Blazer that she bought new.  It has 50K on it, no service issues except the lower ball joints need to be replaced.  Try to find one WITHOUT the (outside) rear mounted spare.  The damn tire blocks most of the rear view mirror.  Mrs. Diesel ordered hers out and speced the inside spare.  You give up some cargo space (which there isn't much anyways unless you fold the seats down) but gain the rear view.  Take the suggestion to check KBB on pricing.   I'm a wrench and I think they are OK vehicles.  Good luck!

Watch out for gremlins with the electrical, steering an braking systems. Chevy in known for that.

I have a 99 LT - rock solid. My father in law had an older one (late 80s I think) ran 250k, was still strong when they sold it. Not sure what LS/LT means, but six grand sounds pretty decent for a higher mileage vehicle. I think we paid 9000ish for 50k, 99 in MINT condition.

Anyways, Id do it again, love that truck

I have a 96 4 door 4x4.
Mine has always been a good vehicle.  It can hual pretty much anything you put in it/on it/ hook up to it.
I havent had any electrical problems with it.   Been wondering how to make it get better fuel economy tho.  (20 mpg on average)  Good power, pretty good ride and handling.  Heard that the fuel pump goes out at 100 k tho.

LS=cloth seats, CD, 4 spoke wheels, optional overhead console.

LT=cloth(leather optional) CD/cassete, brushed aluminum rims, overhed console, leather trim on the doors, Bilstein shocks.

Basically, LT is better equipment than LS.

A tale of 2 Blazers:

Mom:  Currently '00 LT.  Nice truck.  Very little problems.

Sister: Had '96 LS, OK, some problems, bad AC, numerous 4WD problems, etc.

Get a 98+ if you want a Blazer.

Get a 4x4 also.  There is no point in getting a 2WD Blazer.

I concur about no Outside tire, if you back into a pole the door gets messed up, saw a report on the news, and on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety website.  FYI both blazers DID NOT have outside tires.  Only on 2 door can you get on outside tire, i think

Bottom Line, Blazers are nice.

Good Luck.

You need a 87-88 era blazer to get the real deal.  The new ones are all soccer mom'ed out.

4.3 is the best engine GM made right along with the 5.7 V8

Thats cause its a 5.7 V8 short by two cylinders

And the best is the LS1, IMHO. In 7 Liter trim.

I've owned 3 Blazers and have experienced solid reliability with all of them.  My current Blazer is a 1999 model with about 170,000 miles on the odometer.  It's still running strong so I plan to keep it as long as I can.

Skip the Blazer and get a Tahoe. I tested both a ZR-2 Blazer and a Tahoe, and the V-8 alone is worth the money. I only wish I could have found a decent 2 door instead of the 4 door.

My mom has a Tahoe. The older kind. Not a bad rig, I suppose. Its on the edge though, at 150k miles. Systems are showing their age, but still work. I think they are gonna get rid of it.

Mine has 72K mile son it.  My brothers has 150 something on it, and my dads is almost at 200K. I am hoping this truck will outlive me. If the motor goes, unless it's hideously expensive(think how popular and cheap and Chevy 350 is) I'll just rebuild it and drive until the wheels fall off it.

S-10 wise, I prefer the older S-10's they seem to have less problems and are easier to fix but full-size wise the new Tahoe's hands down.

I bought a 01 5.3 Tahoe and simply put, it's

I'll never buy a mid-sized rig again.
