Do you carry with a round in the chamber or empty?

the only firearm that has to be carried chamber empty is a SAA. If you need the firearm you need it now, although mossad (isreali secret police) train chamber empty.

ETA: I carry loaded but I was saying that there are people who don't, in no way an endorsement

Gee. Had a cop ask me that one time.

My reply? "Ain't much good if it ain't loaded." "Matter of fact, makes a very lousy club. Didn't they teach you that in cop school?" "Yours IS loaded, correct?"

Gave me a very stupid look and went on his way.

Isreali style of carrying?

How to get your ass shot off in style.

Load the firearm. You'll thank me later.

my dad carries with no round in the chamber. I have tried to convince him that it is perfectly safe to carry a beretta 92fs with a loaded chamber, but he won't do it.

Just think about having to deploy the weapon with one hand only.  Assume you might have to hold back an attacker with the other, Jethro.

Do you want to call time out to rack the slide?

If there's nothing in the chamber it's not a loaded gun, it's a brick.

On second thought..

If you are seriously asking this question, it is time for you to attend a quality pistol combat school.  It will change your life.

I think you need to have a CCW badge to carry with the chamber loaded! J/K!
Now, really, I carry condition one, on a 1911. If you're scared of that, then you shouldn't even own a gun. You need to figure out this, who are you more afraid of, yourself, or someone else? If you are more afraid of hurting yourself, don't even keep a gun in your house, if you are more afraid of the other guy, carry with a round in the chamber!

I carry revolvers normally but if I do carry a semi it's with a round chambered and the hammer lowered.

Not like I can carry, but I feel that if someone isn't responsible enough to keep their finger off the trigger, they shouldn't have a firearm.  The only safety you need is the mixure of a good brain and working index finger.

1911 Cocked and locked.  What if you were in a situation where you had to be quiet and rack the slide?  I always have carried that way.  If you carry otherwise i would also suggest taking a quality firearms training class.  IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!

Now that winter is here, The Neutral Observer carries a S&W 1076 with one in the chamber.

During the summer, The Neutral Observer carries a Ruger Security-Six with a full cylinder.  The 1076 is too bulky to hide well under summer attire.

I like to keep a round in the chamber (1911).

The gun ain't gonna go bang unless you pull the trigger or something is really wrong with it.

You could try this. Leave the chamber empty and cock the hammer. Carry the gun around for a few days and count the number of times the hammer drops. See how safe it is.

Take it from me, if you are going to carry, you don't have enough funds not to go to a good school.
