Buying a new PC and wondering which virus protection I should get.  I've heard Norton slows the computer down.

Get Kaspersky,  By far the best.  I've tried most of  them out there.   Do some searching for reviews, they all find it the best for finding and eliminating the virus.  Norton is crap, as far as doing anything about about a virus

I don’t think Norton is crap.  I get a free copy from the government though.  Something about them not wanting there employees to bring viruses in or something......

I found Kasperskys on the web, a site that sells it says a pentium is required for it to run.

I had kaspersky  on a pentium 550 and it ran fine.   It isn't as hard on resources as the newest versions of Norton.  

I don't know on anything slower than that.

The one site has kaspersky a little farther down the list, but they knock the interface I think it is a great no nonsense interface without a lot of frills that are there just to make you feel warm and cozy.

a new computer better have a pentium class processor,  I think AMD or Athlon processors would be fine.

I am urging  you read the reviews AVG is not that great although better than Norton,   It also interferes with some firewalls.  

Between zone alarm pro
Kaspersky
and spy sweeper   I have no problems with virii, popups pop unders spyware etc.

Firewalls are a must anymore.  The three programs I listed work well together.  I am not a fan of all in one wonderprograms like Norton PCcillin etc.  I think they do one thing well and float the other programs along to make a few more bucks.

I've run Norton at home for the last three years, prior to that McAfee, and prior to that Panda. No viruses ever with any of them.

The best anti-virus is the protection between your ears. Don't click on pop-ups (I haven't seen one on my computer in years now!), don't open files sent to you from hackers, don't run Microshit IE and Outlook, and scan carefully the priated software you've downloaded.

Norton AV Corp edition, free from work :-)  plus use free Zone Alarm,  PLUS my windows computer is networked behind a Linux Red Hat server acting as an internet gateway and has IPTABLES or something configured,    Very cool!

This wins.  I bust out my tinfoil hat when it comes to my computers.  I have 2 "workstations" and a server running on windows behind a Linux firewall, router with NAT firewall and zonealarm software firewalls on each computer...... Call me paranoid.
