I have an older PIII 1 gig mhz dell, that I upgraded the card to a Nvidia GeForce Ti200 2 years ago. Now it will not run Half Life, Pacific Fighters and so forth. I am buying a new Zeus computer in April, but I am also looking at getting a newer card to hold this one over.
Anybody have a Nvidia GeForce FX5500 256mb DDR? Will it run the newer games? What about Radeon? Any good?

Any of those decent high end memory cards will work well. A very very important consideration that most people overlook is the amount and speed of RAM that your computer has.

I recommend at least 512mb DDR RAM, but ideally 1+ gig. (if you can afford it)

I run the GeForce 5950 Ultra with 256DDR.  I have a 2.8 Athlon with 2Gig of Ram.  It runs everything.

Your processor is going to be the real problem.  1GHz P3 is way too slow for either HL2 or Pacific Fighters, even with a 9800 Pro or FX5x00...
