I am thinking about buying a bunch of OC keychains to hand out to my female relations (and any guys that want one) for Christmas. None of them are really serious about self-defense, but I think they could all be persuaded to pay attention long enough to do a short demonstration (i.e., how to carry it, how it works, when and how to use it). I figured I'd order a bunch of the inert refills and let them actually shoot me with those. In particular, I was looking at the half-ounce Fox Labs keychains. I figure anything bigger than that is going to get left at home. Does this sound reasonable? jafager |

Sounds reasonable to me as long as you make sure you’re not giving one to an idiot (to include someone whose going to let a young child get a hold of it). However, I suggest you try the inert refill out on yourself beforehand. Many years ago, a coworker of mine had a rather bad allergic reaction when exposed to vapor from an inert OC (that is no longer made). If you do get these for anyone, remind them not to leave it in a hot car since the canister can explode (or leak) and make a real mess!! Also, tell them that if they get any OC on their hands, to wash their hands with cool water before going to the bathroom (or rubbing their eyes or such). |
