Haven't used Linux in a while so my opinion prolly doesn't matter, but I used Gnome.

Gnome apps in fluxbox WM. (just switched)
Still use the fonts, but turned off the desktop. Looking to get back calendar integration with evolution, though.

Gnome gave me less troubles than KDE, but I was running it on a shit laptop with a bunch of proprietary hardware.

Neither.
+1 Fluxbox kicks ass . . . the cleanest desktop imaginable and infinitely controllable.
Both KDE and Gnome are resource hogs. KDE especially.
