... the DVD director's cut. Holy crap! |
|
The movie was a very far out sci fi action movie. Think miami vice in space. It definatly requires the suspension of disbelief but not as bad as some movies recently. It was your average super badass steven segall type bullet proof bad good guy vs the universe type thing. Despite how cliched that is, its better than the immasculated hugh grant pansy role that is getting more and more use as of late. Lots of action. Lots of special effects. Lots of diversity in locations. Its worth a watch if you dont buy it. |

Pitch Black was great because I wasn't expecting a whole lot out of it (also Vin Diesel, at the time, wasn't the over cooked ham that he is now). I saw CoR at the theater - and while I liked it - I could see how the general movie going public (idiots that they are) would not. Basically because this came out at a time when people were a little satiated with huge budget science fiction/fantasy epics like The Matrix and LOTR. If it's at Blockbuster this weekend - I'll probably rent it again (despite how disappointed I was with the supposed extra scenes in the Director's Cut of DOTD '04). |
Pitch Black is a GREAT film. Definitely not your typical sci-fi. Many plot twists and just "outside the box" compared with most of the recycled fodder out there. Well worth adding to the collection if you "do" sci-fi. |

Pitch black is a MUCH "smaller" film than CoR...which is why I really liked it. And, as someone else pointed out, Vin Deisel was not overexposed at the time. BTW, I just saw the chick who has the female lead in Pitch Black in another movie recently...Man on Fire, I believe. She was kinda hot. |
Yeah, can you hear the director: "C'mon, Vinnie, gimme some emotion. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!!!!!!!!!!!" |
|
CoR is a great film for what it is... its eye candy, and predictable, but that doesnt make it any less fun... if you go into the theater expecting it to be the first matrix, or empire strikes back, then youre going to be disappointed... i thought it was a great movie... |
Oh great! Looks like I'm going hunting.

No. But the writer and director took that into consideration, and gave him very few speaking parts. If you like lots of action, with things blowing up and people dying, it is a great movie. What really pisses me off is that they are offering a two disc set that includes the movie and an animated film that "bridges" the story lines from Pitch Black to Chronicles. However, my WalMart was only offering the set with the PG13 version of the film, not the director's cut. And the animated disc was not for sale by itself. Dave |
The Blockbastard only had the Directors cut in widescreen, and its that widescreen that really sucks on a normal TV. So I had to GET BOTH. |
The Wally world here had both versions for sale for $16 But the Directors cut unrated version was not in the DVD section , it was in a floor display in one of the isles and the animated disc is in the $9 section . I don't know why people expect some kind of epic from a movie like this , then they bitch about how much it sucked ...... It's a stinking action flick , the special effects and action scenes are the star of the movie , a plot is secondary , and acting isn't even a consideration . I liked it |
It seemsed to have a decent plot, could have been carried out better I think, seems to rushed in a way. I heard they are planning on making one more. |
|
I expect the sequel will depend on if it pulls in money as a DVD, since it didnt do well in theatres |
I dunno, I think he did OK when he was in Saving Private Ryan as the guy who caught the snipers bullet while "saving the little girl from the bombed apartment". He layed there and bled out with the best of em! Our sniper guy was cool, lefty shooting a right handed bolt having to reach over to operate. Shoots the sniper through the scope. Cool! Railgun....

| Bought Pitch Black anc Chronicles on Best Buy Tuesday. Saw Pitch Black in surround sound on my 57" Sony widescreen Tuesday and Chronicles last night. Loved them both! You really need to watch Pitch Black again before watching Chronicles because the 2 survivors from Pitch play major roles in Chronicles. |
