OK i have WinME (yeah its shit but dad wont let me upgrade).

WHen I hit ctrl alt del, there is a prgram running called "Iexplore" or "lexplore", i duno which.  I think they are spyware but spy bot isnt picking anything up.

Adaware picks them up, but when I go to delete them, it quarantines them, then says DELETING with that bar thingy.....and nothing happens.  Adaware hasnt frozen or anything, it just stops doing stuff.  It doesnt get rid of the shit, it just stops in its tracks...

Iexplore seems to be fuckin up my comp bad.  I have about 40? of them going and I dont have internet explorer going or anything.

I have norton antivirus 2003 and its fully updated and its not picking up anything.

WTF mate?

Iexplore is Internet Explorer.

What version of IE are you running?

Iexplore is normally internet explorer, I know if you type Iexplore in the run command it opens internet explorer.

Just back up your stuff and format/reinstall if its giving you problems.

Otherwise you spend more time trying to fix it, that normally doesnt work

It doesn't necissarily have to be a porn site. I've gotten spyware from HERE!

Edited to add: Woohooo.  440. Another great one.

"Spybot 1.3 doesnt pick any of it up"

Make sure you check the settings in that program. There is a page called "Ignore products". Make sure ALL boxes are UNCHECKED. Also, make sure you have updated to the latest definitions.

I've had problems with Norton not detecting certain viruses. If I know or think there is a virus on my machine and norton doesn't catch it, I go to http://housecall.antivirus.com and run their free scan. It's caught a bunch that norton missed.

You may also want to update internet explorer at the microsoft site. Sometimes that will solve most of the problems.

Sounds similar to the way the "Better Internet" assware acts.

All these Iexplore items typically each are connected to some popup / popunder.

If you have Adaware installed, the lavasoft website used to have a tool for removing "Better Internet".
Follow the instructions explicitly.

It worked for me, but its not clear yet what you have.

"Better Internet" had a way of getting itself back into the registry right after you removed it.

If you can run Adaware from safe mode, I'd try that to clean up a bit first.

Spybot is better than nothing, but Adaware is better by far, if you ask me.

None of the antivirus programs would do anything about this, BTW.

If you upgrade your Internet Explorer:

Do not get 6.0!

Get 5.5 only with M.E.

Heres a link.
Get IE 5.5 for Win ME

If you already have it, try removing any and all search bars and freeware.
They may be the source even if it is brand name shit I've seen Yahoo cause this issue.

Also
Open IE go to tools/internet options and delete cookies and restore all default privacy/security settings.
&
Delete the Quarantined files in Ad-aware.

How many running processes do you have running when you scan with AdAware?

If that does not help.
Go to start menu, click on RUN, type in "sfc /scannow" minus the "".
This utility should scan and replace any corrupted IE program files.
I'm not sure if this will work with ME but the 1st options should help ya.

Best of luck.

I spent two hours today dealing with a similar problem.  Ad-Aware was unable to delete the spyware, Spybot didn't even find it, etc.   I finally Googled up instructions on how to tinker with the registry and "uninfest" my p.c. with the help of "Hijackthis".  What a pain in the ass.  Well, actually fixing it was quicker than finding out  how to fix it.  I will never...EVER...download a free file sharing program again.  Period.  If you're going to use the things it's better to blow the $30 or whatever just to keep that crap out of your computer.

Oh, I guess I should say, "Hi!" to everyone.  I've been lurking here (when I have time) for ages...geez...since Sgt Ar15 was Spec4 Ar15, at least.
