Guy's I've got "reader's block"! After reading hundreds and hundreds of books I just can't seem to find anything worth reading. It seems so silly, but they all read the same now. I've been through many, many genre's. Crime, bio's, history. popular fiction of all types, mysteries, action/adventure, sci-fi, etc. After a big layoff from my first love, sci-fi, I thought I'd try to go back. But a trip to the local Barnes & Noble was a bit overwhelming. So I thought I'd try to describe about what I'm looking for and tap into that vast pool of all knowledge that is AR15.com! What I'm looking for is some rippin' heavy metal space opera. Something along the lines of my all time fav', the Lensmen books. Another series would be great because with luck I can get into it and I'll have at least a few books to read. I've already read all the big ones, like Foundation, Dune, etc. NO fantasy--hate it. Just hard core sci-fi. Thanks all! |

Anything by David Weber, John Ringo, or Eric Flint. These are the new top writers in military SF. Weber specializes in heavy space battles. Ringo is into combat SF. Flint did "1632" and "1633", time travel/combat. Weber and Ringo are doing the "Prince Roger" series, three out so far. Excellent "shipwrecked on alien world, heavy-duty military fight to get to the port story". For classics: Armor by John Steakley. Re-issued lately. Armored soldiers fight alien bugs in a hopeless, never ending war. Most anything by James P. Hogan. Specializes in hard science, science fiction. Any of the Sci-Fi books by F. Paul Wilson, (Not the horror stuff). The LaNague Chronicles is a compilation of most of his good stuff, including Enemy of the State, Wheels Within Wheels, The Healer, etc. The Chronicles/Enemy of the State is a Libertarian war to save a free world. EXCELLENT classic. Introduced "KYFHO" (Keep Your F**king Hands Off) There are two branches, the Toliver version is KYFHO, or I'll move away from you. The Flint version is KYFHO, or I'll KILL you. The Man Who Never Missed series. The Man Who Never Missed. Matadora. The 97th Step. The Albino Knife. Brother Death. Black Steel. The Machiavelli Interface. One man brings down an interstellar empire with a dart gun and a new form of hand-to-hand combat. |

Any book by Joe Haldeman, he's a vietnam vet,-- "The forever War" . Jerry Pournelle---"The Mercenary" and "West of Honor" both great books about future war. Any book by Gordon R. Dickson, Robert Heinlein--"Starship Troopers". For crime novels read any novel by George Peleconos, they show a gritty side of DC that is absolutely true. |
