I just saw a speech clip of him talking about how much he's going to help Haiti, and he was saying it IN FRENCH, no seriously this wasn't on the French language channel either. HE SAID he was going to help Haiti, IN FRENCH. Has he totally lost it? I got a laugh out of it. Perhaps there was reason for it, but he's still a tool. |

French family, no french family. Sophisicated or not. He's still a tool. I really think his campaign is finished. I'm still chuckling about hearing him talk about helping Haiti in French, he doesn't have to get Haitians and CERTAINLY not the French to vote for him, so WTF? |

No kidding, he and his wife should just SHUT UP. MAYBE they'd stand a chance. He doesn't see GWB and his wife running around the country shooting their mouths off about anything but REAL issues to US. Franklin and Jefferson both spoke French as did many of our founding fathers. When did speaking French become a liabilty? Speaking a few words in another language to promote goodwill is nothing new. Kennedy did it, Carter did it, Reagan did it (ok so it was onl one word, but you get my point). talk about grasping at staws, damn. Bush is leading in the polls, the sky is not falling. |
Well, on one hand, Bush speaks Spanish to (1.) Mexican-Americans (who comprise a large, important subset of American culture), and (2.) the citizens of Mexico and Central America (whose economies and collective welfare are inexorably linked to our own). On the other, Kerry speaks Le Foo-Foo to the inhabitants of a corrupt, feckless, toilet-bowl-of-a-country (for no apparent reason other than to impress the European community with his mastery of the Yellow Tongue)... See the difference yet? |

There is a large haitian population in Florida..... if you didn't know.... Florida is a key battle state and anyone who wants to be president, pretty much needs to win Florida. This is no different than when Bush talks about Cuba in Florida because of the large Cuban population there.... and Bush attempts to talk to them in spanish occasionally. |
See my post above... the Haitian vote does matter because there is a large population of haitians in Florida... enough so that there is a part of Florida referred to as Little Haiti....  These people aren't stupid and don't waste their time campaigning to people for no reason. |
