I purchased the MKE AP5 first, and then recently got the HK SP5 from a member here. I did have some FTE issue with my AP5 for first 250 rounds, I think it was mainly ammo related because I was shooting 115 grain instead of 124 grain Nato spec ammo per MKE for first 500 rds breaking in period. The next 200 rds was flawless with using 124 grain Nato ammo. I am going to wait for another two weeks to see if we are going to get any guidance for SBRs, if nothing new then I am going to file a form 1 for the SP5. Attached File |

I have had zero issues with a used AP5. Wanted the 1970s retro look. Hammer forged barrel. Previous owner added HK ejector and kept MKE as spare. When I moved to a RB FRT, this trigger pack got the German ejector. My selector markings on the 3-pos contour grip frame are Turkish. I have shot government MP5Ks and this shoots the same. No issues at all. MKE and German mags same same. 115 and 124gr ball, 147gr bonded HP, it all fed and ran. I do own one HK, a 45C, and really like the pistol. But the MKE is a stamped sheet metal gun, assembled with welds, on HK tooling in an HK licensed factory. I mean the gun is welded together, seriously. Whether Ali is doing the welds in Kirikkale or Fritz (but probably also Ali) in Oberndorf… the German parts are slightly, slightly nicer. Maybe. I couldn’t tell the difference in quality between the MKE MP5 stock and a German-made HK33 stock. Others say they can. It’s a stamped sheet metal gun, assembled with welds, dipped or sprayed with paint… not a handfitted, rust blued Korth. I vote MKE. |

I have a full sized AP5 that I’ve SBR’d and built out with a number of HK parts. It’s a great gun, lots of fun to shoot, and it’s been trouble-free the entire time I’ve owned it. Were I to do it all again, I’d probably buy the HK SP5 and just call it done, but effectively there’s very little difference in functionality at this point. If you can spend the HK money, you’re unlikely to regret it. If you would rather get the best value for your money, the AP5 is a great value proposition. If you get the AP5, my recommendation would be to clean it and then shoot it stock first for about 200 rounds or so to break it in. If you have no issues, you’ll likely be good to go. If you do run into issues after the first 200 rounds or so, there’s three main parts that are usually the culprit: -Extractor spring -Extractor -Ejector Lever/spring Replacing all three with genuine HK parts usually remedies any issues you’ll have with the gun from a reliability standpoint. Many people replace these parts proactively when they get the guns, but it’s really not necessary if yours works well from the get go. The MP5 is pretty easy to work on if you’re mechanically inclined and replacing these parts takes minutes. The 3rd Gen HK Ejector lever is the one that’s harder to find, as they’re made in batches it seems. If you find them in stock, I’d buy two and stock one away for a rainy day. Also, buy several of the extractor springs and keep some handy in the range bag. They’re cheap, so buy the real HK ones. All in all, I’ve replaced a ton of the parts in my AP5 with HK parts. Did I need to? Probably not, but I like to tinker with things, and it was more proactive than anything. I’m still way under the cost of an SP5. If I could go back in time, I’d probably just buy the HK, but I’m not torn up about it, and I love shooting the platform. It’s a fan favorite at the range. |

I built a random assortment of parts on a Zenith barreled receiver, and it has run flawlessly with a Rare Greed FRT. I expected to have issues to troubleshoot, but haven't had any problems. Only real HK parts on it are the G3 buttstock and the magazine button. Most internals are RCM. |
I like my PTR SBR. Came with a rail welded on and Magpul furniture, with a Timney from the factory. Hasn’t had a single malfunction, suppressed or not. And the welds/QC is leaps and bounds better than some of the AP5/MKE guns I’ve seen. |

Bought a Zenith Z5-P (when they were importing MKE firearms), and now two full-size AP5s. All three are SBR'd, the K runs 100% with an FRT, and the one full-size had a few hiccups with feeding on FRT before I discovered it was magazine issues (POF). Since discovering the magazine issue, it has been 100% with good magazines (MKE and HK). |

If you put a brace/stock on it after it was a pistol, you need the appropriate roller angle locking piece. 124gr NATO Ammo (No Blazer/Underpowered 115gr) Change Extractor spring to HK, and replace them with HK when you get stovepipes or issues. Don't assume it's still good. If the mag is wobbly or hole is oversized, replace the stamped/welded mag release with HK machined. |

Google says: The fixed length of pull for the SB Tactical SBT5 side-folding brace used on the Century Arms AP5 (full-size) is approximately 10.2 inches (with an overall unit length of 11.3 inches).

For a site full of millionaires, a lot of you sure cheap out when it comes to HK. Both my SP5 and K never needed a break in period. Bought the SP5 in April of 2022, and the SP5K 2 months later. All the talk about breaking in with 124gr ammo... I just finished off my last case of 115gr. That's all I've shot in both of mine...I had a shit ton of 115gr I wanted to get rid of. |
