In 1804 they murdered all the white people in Haiti. This is their national hero: Attached File I'd say the entire country can go to hell, but it's basically already there. |

"All the white people" includes the white people stupid enough to aid them in their revolution, and also includes quite a bit of rape. If white people had been smart they might have considered this a "clue" and started heading thier separate ways, but instead they decided to come up with even more elaborate ways to excuse such behavior. The food is so good? |

Welcome to wherever you are.

France and Belgium were the most merciless in enslaving the populace, but Spain was not far behind. When they were kicked out, local leaders simply replaced them in the established power structure. And that's what has continued - one strongman after another, putting his kin in positions of power and abusing those lower than him - exactly like the colonizers. It's where they learned it. That doesn't give them a pass, but it does explain why most former colonies are the way they are. |

The funny thing is that, post WWII, the only reason anyone has intervened in Haiti is "humanitarian." Haitians are so horrible to each other that other countries have felt compelled to go in to protect them from themselves. That's it. Haiti has no resources anyone wants, they aren't strategically important, the only thing they export is refugees. There is no reason for the rest of the world to pay any attention to Haiti at all, respectfully or not. I can see an effort to help DR protect their border, and keeping Haitian "refugees" out. Other than that? Change the map to "Who?" and totally ignore them. |

The more the government tells us we should not do a thing or have a thing, the more crucial it is that we do those things and have those things.

The only way to help Haiti is to do nothing. This, since you can't get past the corruption at all levels to start with, to do to any good no mater what you do or throw money at them. Ukraine is the same way since it became independent, but since we signed the Budapest memorandum to de-nuke them/ get all their nuke materials for pennies on the dollars at the time to use in the USA for nuclear power plants to run them on the cheap, why we need to defend them now (with money/arms, and not direct troop support). |
