It's not even stupidity on the part of the crews, the Chinese intentionally provoke incidents in every area they're poaching. ETA- I can't tell from the video, but it's possible they had a line(s) out and weren't able to move fast, BUT, they intentionally fish in shipping lanes like idiots. When we went through the Strait of Malacca we had two tow vessels and an escort vessel to ward off pirates (a big problem and insurance companies will sometimes require escorts, as they did in this case). The escort vessel had a couple of mounted guns but they also had one of those sonic things on the bow, I think it was a LRAD but they stayed out front and I never really could see it. They reported blasting a couple of small fishing vessel with it to get them to move but we still had nets and long lines caught on the pontoons by the time we were ready to clear the Strait. A work boat came and cleared them before we entered the Indian Ocean and the escort vessel broke off to take on another contract going back through the Strait. |

How much undertow does a ship that large produce? Did they steer into it or did they get pulled into it? Regardless, they were retarded for ever getting close enough to it for that to be a problem.....assuming it is a problem. |
