Chad Gilbert, guitarist for New Found Glory, dies at 45

(NEXSTAR) – Chad Gilbert, the guitarist for the iconic pop-punk band New Found Glory, has died, the band confirmed Sunday afternoon in an Instagram post.

“We are devastated and shocked by how quickly he left us, yet so grateful for how peacefully and smoothly he went,” the band wrote in a statement. “The amount of visitors that crowded the hospital lobby at a moment’s notice is a testament to how beloved and cherished Chad was, and always will be.”

Gilbert initially revealed in 2021 on Instagram that he had undergone surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his liver.

Since then, he underwent multiple further cancer treatments, including brain surgery in 2023, which successfully removed three tumors.

Gilbert was a founding member of the band New Found Glory, which formed in Florida in the late 1990s before breaking into the mainstream in the early 2000s with their albums “Sticks and Stones” and “Catalyst,” which helped define the pop-punk genre alongside bands like Blink-182 and Green Day.

He was also the vocalist for the hardcore punk band Shai Halud prior to the formation of New Found Glory, and returned to the band briefly in 2012.

Gilbert was 45.
