Hunter mistakenly kills woman (Page 2 of 6)

Most of the shooting of non targeted species I remember is old guys shooting horses or cattle because they're eyes suck or inexperienced hunters shooting at motion or sound. Last two locally that stand our to me was a kid shoo shooting at sound through heavy cover and a dad shooting and rustling brush and killing his own kid. Basic rules and admitting it's time to hang it up would prevent most hunting accidents. |
What's the worst that could happen?

I knew a guy that shot his own father in the leg with a 30/06. He almost died from blood loss. I asked him about it once and he got mad that I brought it up. Just saw the above post about people dying from falls. A friend of my father went hunting with us at my cousins and fell out of a stand about 12-15 feet high. We found him and called an ambulance. Didn’t break anything, just bruised up. At the hospital he learned he had cancer and it had spread. Died about 3 months later. |

May not be frequent but it still happens too often. Morgan Co, GA a family friend was shot and killed by his nephew who thought he was a deer. One of the saddest funerals I have ever attended. The family forgave the young man which is far better than how I would have handled it. |

| I am for long jail times for those. If someone is not going to care about other people's lives enough to identify a target maybe the possibility of a long time in jail will get them to actually bother to see what they are shooting at. |

To the people and families involved it's not a statistic but a tragedy for everyone involved. |

Went to find the data you’re quoting, and it appears that 60 is the total all cause hunting deaths. Firearms and tree stand falls were ranked equally at just over 10% each, so about 6-7 hunting related firearm deaths annually. https://ammo.com/research/hunting-accident-statistics |

A couple of stiff Wild Turkeys really calms me down. Plus, when I start seeing double it gives me double the chance to check my target. |

He was sitting on a stump and bent over to tie his boots. Some dumbass saw him and thought he was a bear because they could only see his dark brown wool pants or whatever. (Never mind that it wasn't even bear season at the time...) More recently, I was using binos to glass some antelope down in a shallow draw. I noticed a dude on the opposite slope of the draw, wearing a minimal amount of orange, and glassing me.... with the fucking scope on his rifle. (I wasn't directly in line with the animals, so it was pretty obvious that he intentionally had me in his sights). Wanting to make sure the idiot realized I was actually a human, I stood up and jumped up and down waving my arms. This caused the antelope to run off. The dude looked pissed, but fuck him. |

Once you realize that all power comes from the credible threat of the use of deadly force, and the gov't hates you, most things become easy to understand..

Is there a rifle season for deer in Delaware in September? Is that where some of the charges came from? Poaching and hit a human? I didn't read any more than was posted here. For the record, my cousin lit up my uncle, his dad, while turkey hunting. Luckily, it was far enough away that the shot spread out and didn't penetrate much. He took it all in the arm and the side of his body. My cousin was so broken up over doing it, he couldn't drive the truck and my uncle drove himself to the ER. My cousin had to go to hunter education classes for a few years to tell his story. |

Hunters shooting at sounds. I used to deer hunt when I was younger. I avoided modern gun season for reasons like this. I preferred bow season or primitive gun/muzzle loading because there were fewer asshats to contend with. |

Shooting deaths are rare. Walked out the back of his cabin, climbed the hill to his stand. Heart attack. He was probably around 70 years old. My older relatives told a story about an accident that happened at the neighboring camp back in the late 60's Guys had a Luckily it missed everyone else still in the bed of a truck, and the only thing that saved the driver from getting shot was it was an old truck with the gas tank behind the seat, and the tank was full. Various layers of metal and a few inches of gasoline were enough to cause the bullet to enter the seat but not exit it. ETA:: Talked to dad, got the corrected story. ![]() |

I never deer hunted opening day of rifle season on public lands since then. I also stay way away from thickets of rhododendron, palmetto, etc. unless we're loudly chasing rabbits or hogs with dogs. Literally never heard anyone in my life say they took or knew of anyone who shot at sounds. Or even a story of someone doing that But I hunt in the west |
