All of us growing up in the 60's and 70's had pop guns (you would plug the end of the barrel with dirt then blow it out when you pulled the trigger), cap guns, and when a bit older even BB guns. I haven't seen a roll of caps sold in a store for decades now. Heaven forbid if you saw a 12 year old kid walking into the woods with a BB gun these days. World be cray. |

I don't remember that one but I'm sure we did see a lot of toy gun commercials. I was born in 65 and Saturday mornings were cartoon days, and of course peppered with toy ads aimed at the kids. One thing I remember was it seemed like most of the squirt guns we had when I was young were modeled after the Luger. I used to have a Thompson SMG all black squirt gun years ago that I wish I still had. Plus lots of revolver cap guns, either the old time roll of cap styles, or the later snub nose .38 with the red plastic ring caps. I remember the Sears Christmas catalog that we'd get that we'd go through to pick out what we wanted for Christmas. |

I took a rifle to school for show & tell, got a A for that one. Teacher and Principal approved, no worries. No one cared OP, we all enjoyed real guns and toy guns and no one thought twice about it. Our morals and respect for one another kept us safe, gun crime was almost unheard of. |

I've got a picture of me carrying my big brother's Diana BB rifle at an Army Base playground in Germany in 1960, when I was four years old. Every kid I knew had a BB gun. When I was 10, my Dad got me a Savage .22 bolt-action. |

Gen X master race. Born in 77. Growing up throughout the 1980s and 1990s we had Enertech cap guns and commercials for them. I remember going into the woods loaded for battle with my friends to play war, cowboys and indians, cops and robbers. We'd run around shooting up the entire neighborhood. I still see rolls of caps and cap guns for sale around me but nothing like the Enertech guns. Hell, my 16 year old daughter went out with her friends and bought cap guns to play with. |

I was in a store two weeks ago that had cap guns. Caps. Toy guns of many styles. Toy swords. Shields. And a section of Estes rockets. Been in it many times. It’s like going back in time. |

Some of the kids in the neighborhood would have BB gun fights, but I remember my Mom telling me in no uncertain terms that if she ever heard of me shooting at someone, I'd be an adult before I ever had anything resembling a firearm again, and it's weird that as bad a kid I was at times, I never engaged in those BB gun wars.

Gen X checking in. We had roll caps, ring caps, and the caps that were on a semi-rigid plastic strip. My brothers and I would run around our neighborhood playing shoot'em up. I don't remember seeing commercials for toy guns, but the toy stores had a whole aisle full of awesomely realistic guns. As we started getting older, they started making them with the stupid red or neon green tips so kids wouldn't get smoked by cops thinking their toy guns were real. Of course, we just repainted them black  We learned that if you hit the caps with a rock or hammer that they were WAY louder than if you used them in a toy gun. This is quite possibly why that when I'm in a quiet room all I hear is eeeeeEEEEEEEEeeeeEEEEEEEEEeeeeeEEEEE

You were lucky to survive the 1960’s with the cool toys kids could get. Whammo made some awesome stuff. Melting plastic Chemistry sets Cox planes and cars Flying saucer guns in addition to cap guns and flash powder Add inventiveness and curiosity of kids using these toys not as they were intended.

Growing up in the 60's....of course Show & Tell at school usually always had German or Japanese War trophies brought to show and sometimes the Dads brought guns they had brought home. I remember Japensese Flags and German Flags and lots of Medals being shown. |

This is what I was gonna post but could not remember the brand. They had all kinds of cool stuff. I had the M16 and my friend had a set that made the water balloon grenades, the pump looked like a plunger type detonator. |
