Memorial Circle is not a part of Arlington National Cemetery. There are three primary roads between the entrance to ANC and the circle. Memorial Circle is located in the area commonly called the National Mall and Memorial Parks, which is managed by the National Parks Service. It is not technically on the National Mall or in DC. It is in Virginia, just like ANC. There are over 100 monuments, memorials, statues and historic sites in the surrounding area. Memorial Circle is neither hallowed or sacred ground. It is a traffic circle. Memorial Circle has had plans for some type of monument since 1925, shortly after the Lincoln Memorial was finished. The original plan was for two 166’ columns, one representing the North and one representing the South, that would frame the view of the Lincoln Memorial. This symbolized the reunification of the country after the Civil War. The “framed view” of the columns and the Lincoln Memorial would be from Arlington House. I think it is reasonable to disagree with the particular structure or design, but arguing a monument should not be there and creating false reasons like it being in ANC, it is hallowed ground or there shouldn’t be monuments in the area is disingenuous. As someone that visits the area quite frequently and enjoys learning about the symbolism designed into the Mall and the individual memorials, I would rather see the original columns built. I don’t oppose Independence Arch, but maybe it is not right for that area. However, that doesn’t mean it should remain an empty space void of any important memorial. |

Having lived in DC in the years after 9/11 I noticed a few “interesting” buildings that are probably not what they appear to be. Having a 250’ tower bristling with AA/Drones is probably not a bad idea. Drone strikes on DC launched from converted shipping containers is probably a real concern |

Hitting Communist Cuban leadership or the Iranian Ayatollah from a shot fired with a rifle from the top of the "Arch De' Trump" would certainly quality in the record books as "Worlds Longest Sniper Shot". But using logic - based on weapon range. It would seem highly likely that someone(s) in D.C. would be the likely intended target(s) of short range weapons. The population in D.C. is very heavily US Citizens. Protection (A.A. missiles & security teams & snipers) are already at locations such as the Whitehouse, Congress & Pentagon due to key people & function of Government. What is the "key function" of Goverment ... for the "Arch De' Trump"? So who would these snipers and drones be for? Left wing lunatics? I doubt such a thing would be needed. I could see this be useful against trained militia or other groups like us who are well equipped and trained trying to fight back against tyranny, but they wouldn’t use it against us would they ? and ill also add that is a terrible defensive.
