So Utah is pretty liberal in handing out archery tags for shitty no game areas because you never get anything. Someone said "hunting tags are the Lotto of Utah." last year I bought a used Matthews and I bought a new Bear as a back up. The Bear came ready to go from the factory. I forget how much but it was maybe $500. The first time I drew it the rear sight flew off, I don't think I found it. I found the Bear today cleaning the garage. My Matthews is Sydney Sweeney compared the Bear being Kamala Harris' janky step daughter. I guess Bear is a decent entry level bow and plenty of deer are killed with them, I just had bad luck. Compound bows seem kind of Rube Goldberg. I've shot a lot but just in fields for fun. I was out for about a week this fall with my Matthews and some of it was going through brush and trees and climbing up mountains. It held up fine. I don't know that many people travel with a second bow. |
| I killed my first whitetail many years ago with a secondhand Bear bow. You are correct that Matthews, Hoyt, etc are leagues better than a Bear. Of course my Hoyt Carbon bow was damn near $2500 with sight, rest, quiver, etc. I too am currently traipsing around Utah trying to fill my extended archery deer tag. |

Bear flagship bows are on par with the others. Where bear does itself a disservice is, unlike the others, bear doesn't have a different brand name for their mid and entry tier bows. But, the last time I shopped bows was a decade ago, things may have changed since then. |

I bought a new Bear Lights Out bow ~15 years ago and have stuck a handful of deer with it. It's been a good bow. Your rear sight falling out is more than likely the fault of whoever installed it. |

I'm on my second season with a Bear Species XT RTH. No issues with many shots at the range. Took one deer last season. Still hunting this September. I like it much more than the Hoyt it replaced. Also switched to a thumb trigger release last year. Really enjoy that over the jaw type. I did shoot with tab years ago. |

A "ready to hunt" package with the tube style peep. Its the worst type of peep no matter what bow they are on. Get a real peep tied in at a real archery shop and the bow set up. Sight, rest, and arrow leveled correctly. Get the timing checked if its a 2 cam bow and get the cam lean straightened out if it needs it. This is stuff that any brand bow needs done before you start shooting. Use the correct arrow spine and arrow length for your draw weight and draw length. Nothing wrong with Bears. Everyone just thinks they are crap because they have so many different models at around the same prices. Most can be shipped right to your door or some boight at walmart. Take them out of the box without anything set up for the individual shooter and wonder why it doesn't shoot well. |

We had 4 bulls within 50 yards with a really nice 6x6, no shots. There is a white paper out about Elk bull behaviour that was tracked by gps collars. Once hunting starts bulls move to steep shitty to get to areas because nobody goes into those spots. My buddy has a nice bull coming into a wallow that has a game camera on it and it is coming twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. It's a nice 6x6, it's in a steep,deep, dark mosquito infested hole about 1 mile from a road. we did 16 miles in 2 days at 7K + elevation. |

I started my grim journey of bow hunting elk with a bear compound. Stone Age compound, 39 years ago. It worked fine, but grouse were all I ever got. Then a friend asked me to go on a rifle elk hunt, I had to borrow a 30-06, nailed a 4x bull at 25 yards. Dang, I switched to rifle elk. Then back to bow. I have the poors version of a Mathew’s, Mission…made by them. I think mine is about 8 years old. The new stuff seems nicer. If I can ever get back out I’m buying a Mathew’s. |

I had a nearly 20 year old bear that had some age related problems, like the strings stating to come apart. The bow shop guy was like "Uh this is an old budget bow in bad shape. Throw it out" I bought a old matthews he had on consignment. I forget how much but it seemed like a lot. I got nervous and bought a discontinued Matthew's off eBay this summer but then balked at putting the Matthew's accessories on it. My old Matthew's held up to my stumbling around in the woods so far. I did have an arrow fall out of the quiver. I hope no one falls down a mountain on it

I have made 4 (careful) trips through the brush I’m sure I lost an arrow in, looking for that thing. I hate the thought of it causing an injury to man or beast. These little lighted knocks are cheap, but no help for that. Probably in 10 years they’ll have a tracker in there too. Attached File |
