The answer depends on the type of dog or cat, your living situation, how much room you have, how much time you're home, etc.. There is no one-sized-fits-all answer. If you have a small place without a big yard, work long hours, it's stupid to have a dog. Again, every situation is different. I'm personally not a cat person but I have a few guys friends that have awesome cats. Just loyal, teach them tricks, friendly, and have so much personality. I've also met some cats that are absolute assholes that couldn't care less about their owners. Same with dogs. |

Given the long hours that I work, a dog isn't feasible. But I've got my Maine Coon boss, and she greets me at the door each day when I come home from work. She'll get underfoot if she thinks I'm doing too much around the house, and lets me know that it's time to take a break. Not quite sure who trained the other more, her or I.  Hell, she's bigger than some of the dogs of members here.

I have a cat. Like has been said. I’m pretty busy and go out of town frequently. My lifestyle wouldn’t be possible with a dog. Attached File This is her about to remind me that I had been gone entirely too long for her liking. |

Im with Samual Clemens, I prefer a cat to dogs. Mainly for all the previous reasons listed. Dogs are great, im just to busy to train a new one. Anyway this guy is my back country partner. Even carried me home once on his own, when I was injured.Attached File |

However, I'm retiring from the military next year and won't get those lunches with a real job so I'll struggle with that. We are thinking about letting him roam free throughout the day instead of the crate, so that would make it a little better. So I'd still say dogs but I'd definitely agree that they take a lot of time and energy, but it's worth it. Plus we don't have kids so he gets all our love and attention. |

Buddy the cat is on dog #3, we have had him for 18 years and got him from the shelter as a kitten. Very cool cat. Belle, Lou and now Brie. Attached File Attached File Here he is with Brie earlier in the year. Attached File Brie is a smart dog, dove field a couple of weeks ago. She is 8 months old.
