Grocery Prices Are Out Of Control (Page 2 of 12)

We grow a large garden, have fruit and nut trees and chickens. It isn’t a massive savings, but it pays, and we eat better and spend time together, outside, getting meaningful work done. There are local beef, pork, chicken producers we buy from. Might be time to tear up that back yard and start growing food. I don’t know how this ends. |

I have a pile of daughters from Newborn to driving age. My grocery /housegoods bill is over $2500 a month. Hell I think I spend around $200 a month for toilet paper and feminine products. Thats with a full greenhouse and chickens on the homestead. My kids ate every fig, blackberry, strawberry, guava, jaboticaba, raspberry, blueberry and grape we grew this year. I’m dying over here. |

Pretty sad when a pound of ground beef costs more than a pound of live ME lobster... both boat price and most of retail places. |

Sirloin tips/strips were 9.99/lb (sometimes 6.5/lb on sale) last September. They increased to 15.99 before the iran thing. They're still 15.99 right now. That won't last long. I haven't bought them since they went up. Not worth 16/lb. $11 for diesel in Europe right now, but food is less expensive than US. Will attempt to get pics from supermarket this week (all closed today). |

I swear females eat the most insane variety of things, (prob why they live longer). Females in my household will stock 100's of random things. Meanwhile, I'm looking for meat, cheese and bread, and I'm good. Don't even get me started on toilet paper, LOL |

| I spend $100-$150 a week at aldi for family of 3. It gets expensive because I only feed my child organic food. $600 for a cartful is retarded. You have to live within your means. No steak. I only buy ground beef, and only maybe 2 lbs a week because of the insane cost of beef. |

I took it home, got out my meat cutting stuff (sharp butcher knife and a cutting board I made so I could cut steaks to equal thickness), washed my hot little hands and proceeded to cut 24 steak dinners out of that thing for around 175$. Then I got out my food saver and a roll of bag material and i spent about a half hour bagging them for the freezer. Sub 10$ steak dinners, with a little over an hour's work. |

One 11 year old. So, 6 of us run about $350-375 per week, depending on what sundry we buy. That cost isn’t just food, it’s all necessities included. We typically shop at Meijer. Mostly whole food ingredients, veggies, fruits, etc. No prepared foods or meals at all. We cook every meal at home now, because eating out costs too much. Even fast food is $50+. A mid tier restaurant is over $100 easy, before tip. Not worth it. |

Then go pick up your meat from the butcher and pay the processing fee. Last cow I sold was averaged out to about $5.39/lb for my customers. Hogs are being processed right now, but should be in the $5/lb range as well give or take a couple quarters. It’s a good deal for me and the customer. I get full price, cut out the middlemen and they get good wholesome beef/pork from my farm for a very fair price. Fuck the big packing companies. |

They both share the blame. Trump is in charge now and has done nothing but exacerbate the issues with his mouth and ignorance. |

Food and fuel/energy prices are just ignorant across the board. Trump better be glad the Dems are batshit crazy because but for that fact, the mid-terms would be a bloodbath. (and they may be anyway) This fucking thing in Iran should have been done 2 months ago. And can anybody tell me why the Houties are still even a factor? The fucking Saudis are worthless.

| For those of you for whom things constantly go over your head, the point of the OPs post was to make a metaphor for things being out f control price wise. He was not looking for you to tell him where to buy chicken for $1.29 a pound, which secret store to go to, or for tips on coupons. |

Yep... I got married in June 2024, and I've been monitoring my budget since long before that. The first year or so for three of us would hit around $1k per month. The wifey and I tried shopping at a few different places and found that Aldi does save quite a bit, though they don't have everything we need. So we get some things from HEB, most of the rest from Aldi, and sometimes things from Walmart or Target. Anyway, I think that budget is now $1.5k. And my income hasn't kept up. Pathetic raises the last few years. I'm actively looking for another job now. |

not sure if regional around here prices seem much more reasonable than during Biden.. eggs - 1.59/dozen steak - back down to 24.99/lb for filet, was up to over $50, tenderloin tips 14.99/lb chicken prices are back to good and also chicken is available again after the whole gap overall everything seems pretty normal |

If you went to a different grocery store other than Publix, you’d probably save 30% Publix is a rip off Publix is a shop the specials and you will break even. Their meat department alone is so much better than a lot of the others in my area. There are some chains that aren’t in the area I’d prefer. Ingles may be a bit cheaper but it’s processed food hell and the meat department is the same prices and shit quality. |

There's some truth to this too. My Mom in the 1970's and 80's did this religiously. Here, the Randall's (aka Safeway) deli has Cheap Chicken Monday - 8 pieces of dark meat, fried, baked, grilled or spicy fried - for $5.99, and they usually have at least one brand of bacon on sale for $3.99. We hit them every Monday for just that, can get up to 4 meals out of that $5.99. |
