According to Massage A. Boob’s book on the Beretta: Attached File Some slide breaks were attributed to some units using regular 9mm NATO ammo with suppressors, and supposedly the weight of the suppressor way out on the end of the gun like leveraged the locking block up into the slide. Something it was never designed for in the first place. Supposedly. The old joke used to be “You ain’t a SEAL until you have tasted Beretta steel.” |

The old joke used to be “You ain’t a SEAL until you have tasted Beretta steel.” No, these were a result of 18,500+ rounds on a recoil spring interval of "whenever it gets shorter than the barrel when the pistol is stripped." ![]() Coincidentally, these pistols had been through a few locking blocks too. Nobody's tasting steel after the revised hammer pins were put in production, but you could try to hunt down a Phrobis slide if you were really worried about it. |

I've owned and shot a bunch of 90-series Berettas over the years. I can honestly say I've never had a malfunction on a 9mm version that wasn't ammo related, as in bad ammo that wouldn't function in any pistol. Of course I've always had guns that were well maintained and used quality mags. I did have a .40 cal 96 that was pretty sensitive to ammo type - particularly cartridge OAL. That was on the gun because the ammo the 96 choked on would run just fine in other guns. But it's a full-size gun. Even the compacts aren't very compact. About the only way to hide this one is with a trench coat! ![]() Attached File |

What’s the lowest possible red dot mounting method you can get on these? Pretty much the only think holding me back is the sky high optic mounts I usually see. Also is that available without the vertec grip. I have massive hands and I prefer the original grip. I’d love a frame mounted safety + lowest optic height + non vertec frame. Fairly sure that doesn’t exist. |

Fairly sure that doesn’t exist. Getting the slide milled by Langdon would meet your optic need. The only way to get a standard frame with a safety would be a gunsmith job using 92 Combat parts. You can use the grip panels that replicate the standard frame ….. I use them since I hate the Vertec frame |

[Attached File The top was a picture of a service 92 used by an Army unit and the bottom was my "modern" take on it. Used a 96 Centurion and had Jarvis cut a standard 96 barrel then fit one of their comps to it. Gun shoots super soft for a .40 and the only drawback is limited capacity. |

Fairly sure that doesn’t exist. Langdon is the lowest by a pretty good margin. It's around $385 to mill the slide and install a custom optics plate with sights. I'm not sure you can get a frame mounted safety with the old style frame. The wrap-around grip that emulates the old grip isn't bad, but I prefer the Vertec frame, so I may not be the best judge. Dlah Designs plates are relatively low on red dot cut models, but reports apparently exist of the lowest version struggling. It's aluminum and the mid height seems to be more foolproof. It's also the Reddit favorite. The Eleven-71 has a longer wait time, isn't quite as low, but is titanium. They're good mounts for factory cut guns and the machining is pretty fantastic on the ones I've seen. Everything else is higher than what you're expressing interest in. |

Got three French-made G1S models this week. I don't know how many came into the US, but they cost me a mint. Attached File |

First issued one in ‘88. Traded in beat as piss 1911a1s for M9s. Non-Tier One SOF did NOT have nice 1911s. Yeah, we bitched about 9mm but reliable, new magazine, accurate guns in the Lethal Weapon/Die Hard era were loved when all is said and done. I was DCO of a Tier One unit my last 8 years in. Direct support - on target- not operators. We issued M9s. If someone had small hands, I would on request sign off for them to get a G19 or M11 instead. Armorers would also do some basic extra parts on request for those actually going on target. My personal first 92FS I bought 1990 over the years acquired similar spare parts previously on my issue secondary as stuff got updated and old stuff written off. Plus various presents/civilian stuff. I know an M9/92 is objectively not the most accurate, most reliable, most durable, etc. and better guns for better things are available. But I like it the same way I like a ‘69 GTO, or an ‘85 Z28/IROC, or ‘89 X-tra cab V6 Hi-Lux, or second gen 4Runner. Or a second gen G19. They were great for their time, and still perfectly usable. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() People ask about the cut cable. Nobody really cut light cables on purpose with the first gen lights. They got beat and frayed and broke. First Gen holsters were thumb snap. And broke over time as well. After the light cables wore you would just use your off thumb for use the light. What if you were wounded, using your other hand for whatever, etc. and you wouldn’t be able to activate your light? Well… If you weren’t using your carbine, down to your secondary, down to one hand- there must be plenty of other shit to worry about than using your light. Second gen holsters went to a rotating rentention that was a little more durable. Second gen lights were a more durable cable. |

Ive toyed around with the idea of doing a 9mm like that but the availability of porting now has held me back some. I must admit that I'm a sucker for some of these obscure 92/96 series builds and seeing how they work/can be improved upon. |

The M9 I was issued at Bagram in 2007 (photograhped on top of one of those great US-issue wool blankets). I took it on 70 combat missions in OEF, including a couple significant events in my professional history. Would love to know where it is now. Attached File And my 1993 92FS, which doesn't get nearly the trigger time that it used to. Still a great shooter, though. Only modification is the ol' "D" spring swap, which was pretty cool back in the 90s. Attached File |

I've probably got 20 or more 92 variants with about 1/2 from Italy and 1/2 from Tennessee; it's been a long time since th2 Tennessee factory turned out a rough gun. At present, you'd be very hard pressed to tell the difference between the two, as fit and finish on the Tenn. guns has caught up to Italy with the exception of their use of Cerakote, which I still think is applied to thinly. Other than that, I've only ever seen one Tenn. gun with some inner-slide chatter marks; it was a very early 92FS. |

| Why anyone would want to own a 92FS is beyond me. I used the M9 version of the 92FS, pure garbage. Save you cash and get a better pistol. You could not give me a 92FS. |
