RIP my precious Megan Elizabeth 3/15/01 - 10/27/22
| I really need to get more knowledgeable about what's out there on a consumer level. My 1st grader daughter has already asked for a 3d printer for Christmas... And I'm a reformed aerospace structures design engineer with a Catia license on my work computer who ran a stratasys 400mc for years. |

Can anyone elaborate on the concerns with the bambu reporting folk to the gubmint? Me and a buddy were looking to go in on a X2D combo or something similar. I'm not sure what all I might get into printing but I don't like the idea of a record of all the stuff I might print... If I want to buy once and cry once, and don't mind tinkering to some degree, which machine is recommended? Are the lower tier Prusa worth looking into? |

Fully elaborated. The government doesnt want you printing shooty things. Why the fuck anyone would think China would report you, is beyond all comprehension and common sense. China WANTS you to go against the government, as that advances their agenda in the sense it is another distraction and infighting. When has China ever partnered with the US government? Exactly. Now, if you want to say they could steal IP or something like that, that is at least an argument worth talking about. I still think its a stupid argument as you can run a Bambu 100% offline like any other printer, but everyone talks about closed source and runs them down the road when Bambu has all the same offline printing capability as any other printer and the only piece of closed source software is the network plug in that interacts with their servers. BBS is open source no different than PS or OS. They also allow custom firmware loads, though frankly its unnecessary as it already comes with the capability people have to flash firmware for in other machines, like a higher hotend temp. Ultimately its just a bunch of hollaring overblown shinanigans. Not unexpected given the community. Now....could it evolve into more than that? Sure. But right now I'd be a hell of a lot more worried about Josef telling the government about my 2A prints than I would China. Again, thats just common sense in my book. |

And yet we have an actual real world example of a Chinese company (flashforge) threatening to report you to the authorities for printing gun parts. What makes bambu different? |

Maybe there’s another outlier or two. ETA: Prusa, UltiMaker, Formlabs, Phrozen, LulzBot, Zortrax, Craftbot. All the rest are PRC-based and/or PRC-manufactured. |

I wanted easy and just works for the first one. Reduce the number of variables and keep my son's interest. Bambu P1S with AMS2. We've had some failed prints: clogged nozzle, heat creep, variations in filament, but some very successful ones (drawn from scratch parts). I'm not real interested in printing plastic guns and suppressors. I sold my P80s after the novelty wore off and I have plenty of cans. I am planning to print some Magpul bolt grip cores in PETG though. |

I have one of the Flashforge AD5M's....probably had it for a year and a half, and I love it! Right out of the box, with the default settings....it printed awesome! I've dialed it in a little more, and so far I've been nothing buy happy with it. And if you have any questions, their customer service is pretty awesome as well. I have no complaints at all. |

I have a Qidi Plus 4 and love it, but am dealing with fixing the chamber heater at the moment which was defective but is being warrantied. Qidi makes great printers that are about on par with Bambu. Their newest one has a large print area and they have an even larger one if you need it. I saw some recent results about print accuracy, and apparently Prusa has THE best, followed by Bambu. I REALLY want a Bambu H2C, but the stance they have taken about their "ecosystem" and the recent accuracy testing I saw would be looking hard at Prusa's tool changer model. |
