That's all hurt to Canada if we do.

But at the core of things, I doubt that trade imbalance is what is really the cause of Trump doing what he's doing.

That long ass, undefended, barely patrolled border and Canada's immigration policies could have a lot more to do with it than they're letting on.  That and how cozy the politicians seem to be with China...

So, based upon some of the news reporting that the new round of tariffs will affect "motor bikes", I presume the action against Bombardier isn't just dealing with the aircraft....  unless there are other motor sport manufacturers in Canada.

I can’t stand it to think my life is going so fast and I’m not really living it.

Buh bye NATO.

Trump won't take that well.

Recently I've started watching some canadia based pods/videos. They did the math on this, the EU can realistically replace about 1/4 of the trade Canada does with the US.   An EU ambassador when confronted by a canadian journo (who are essentially state media) about Trumps deals being "written in pencil" took great pains to not agree.  The EU got it's deal signed and they want no part of upsetting the apple cart at this point.

We'll see but the EU is so ate up with bureaucracy that it could take years even if they find a pair and agree to it.

Yes, but when the EU says "thank you sir! may I have another?" and signs as quickly as they did, with very little debate or input from major member economies like Germany....you know there is no leverage to be had on the largest economy in the world.

I can't figure out what is motivating Carney and the bullfrog running Ontario.  If it's just pride....holy shit.   The EU is multiple times the size of canadia.   Objectively it makes no sense at all. Canada is a Polish hostage.   Do what I say or I'll shoot myself.....

He claims he saved the Liberals because they would be “easier” to get a “deal” out of. Considering the Liberals (and the Euros) are using him as a campaign issue to get an unbreakable hold on power….I don’t believe he’s revealing his true motive. Personally, I think he’s salting the earth for Vance in ‘28, amongst other things.

There are 3-4 that I've been watching for a few months now, they're all very pragmatic and reality based.. the same programs I'm sure... Europe and Canada are both crippled with the same bad ideas, a closer marriage does nothing to improve Canada's situation other than its a familiar shelter to run to for Carney personally I guess.

As you've pointed out the American market is the prize, and it cannot be matched or replicated anywhere in this universe so time to grow up eh?

Is this the same EU where the German AFD party just stomped everyone in the state level elections?   People may dislike Trump and he could still be the healthiest horse at the glue factory.  The ideas are spreading, mostly because the biggest personality in this solar system is pushing them.  AFDs big thing was closing Germany's borders.

It's all they've got to justify a trade war.

Nevermind we were selling you guys $billions of dairy products duty-free, the fact that there were anti-dumping duties on the books was apparently intolerable. The milk quotas being preferentially granted to dairies willing to process in Canada (so they could control hormone levels) is what supposedly broke the trade agreement.

The funny thing is they used the same argument against Switzerland. Like we fly milk into Switzerland.

Of course they could afford to just cave because it's a non-issue.

This week he's doing the same thing with interest rates, just fundamentally misunderstanding how macroeconomics works.

What I've learned over the last few years of Trump bringing up lopsided issues that no politician would ever mention before is that a lot of our friendships are largely bought and paid for and will only go so far as the last paycheck... I suppose not so different than life in general between individuals to an extent.

Maybe shouldn't be such a surprise..

completely. but hes shooting himself and canada right in the junk.

Canada has one trade partner that matters. its thier logistically cheapest trades, 50% of thier population lives within 100 miles of the border with that trade partner.  its the most integrated trade relationship on earth.

This is the dumbest economic decision I've ever seen.  Any situation where there isn't very low friction trade between the US and canada results in the Canadian economy evaporating in months.  No practical alternative exists in a meaningful time frame.

Not necessarily. The armored vehicle manufacturer, Roshel, officially expanded its production into America by opening its first U.S. facility in Shelby Township, Michigan. It also bought the Springfield plant in OH from International Motors, which previously issued WARN notices for 1,341 layoffs ahead of the transition.  Americans kept their jobs.

The Army wanted to buy armored vehicles from the Canadian company. Carney would't allow it, so they moved to the USA. F@#k Canada.

I agree, my wife and oldest daughter are Canadians. Horrified is not strong enough of a word to describe the Canadian penchant for Leftist stupidity. It is an incurable addiction. The exchange rate is $1.39 and getting worse. They are burning money and celebrating.

Economists point to a decades-long stagnation in private-sector capital spending as Canada’s economic "Achilles' heel". Due to heavy regulatory burdens, high corporate taxes, and ongoing trade anxieties, businesses are choosing not to invest in new machinery, advanced technologies, or facilities. As a result, the investment gap between Canada and the U.S. has widened drastically, leading to a drop in the capital-to-labor ratio.

Supply Chain Interdependence will destroy Bombardier. Its current U.S. footprint is huge, noting it relies on roughly 2,800 American suppliers across 47 states (such as GE Aerospace and Honeywell) and that its jets feature at least 40% U.S.-made content. Its stock dropped 6% in one day amid threats from Trump.

Carney had this plan for a while.   It's starting to come out.  The trade dispute was the excuse, which is why he tanked them at the last minute.  Canada is being sold off to the EU while parliament is out of session.  Makes the speed with which the Eu signed their deal make more sense.  I bet this has been in the works for a while.

I hope Canadians that are understandably uppity over the trade dispute can re-focus on the real threat.  They are going to wake up in someone else's country with no sovereignty at all.

If there's one thing Carney is good at, it's distraction. I think the EU thing is another of his distractions. Another thing he wants people and the media to focus attention on, but something that will never happen.

There is no such thing as an "associate" member of the EU in any of the EU treaty documents. Such a status would have to be defined, agreed upon by all the EU member states, added to the treaties, then the treaties ratified by all the member states. The chances of all that happening at all, much less in the next couple of years, are vanishingly small.

Gonna be interesting to watch the EU thing play out.  I can't imagine both sides agree to it, I mean Canada has provinces that were already looking at separation, it wasn't a slam dunk but it was a discussion.  The western provinces look at the eastern ones the way we look at Europe.  Now those provinces might be run by Europe.   I don't see it happening, at least not with the current Canada intact.

Then what happens?  We won't need canada any more then than we do now, and we'll be even less inclined with the EU on our border.
