Ahoy! As much as I would like a USS Arizona theme I suggest a ship that most students would not know about. Many possibilities of wrecks in Iron Bottom Sound. A DD like the Ward or a CA like the Astoria. The F4 would fit in as well. Although it might be a Wildcat. |

I love the work you do, @guns762 ! Way to keep things going for your students! Your teaching work is truly exceptional. One thing of potential interest - I wonder if you could rope in a history teacher a talented/motivated student to research local WWII veterans and find a way to present some of their stories as part of the exhibits. Might make the display that much more interactive/meaningful for your community.

The kids really enjoyed it, and I think the Veteran did too. Having some local stories recorded and worked into the display would be pretty cool. |

Arfcom ends up brainstorming ideas that take the vision to new levels, even if the details dont end up perfect.  I don't talk with the students through out the process about striving for perfection, but having realistic expectations. We will not be perfect. |

Ask them to come in with sketches and ideas of what to do to maybe get a wide array of smaller projects instead of a couple giant ones (something that hasn't happened yet, but that might be our fault). Anyway, once you get all the submissions from them, dim the lights and turn on the projector for concepts you had and then mix and stir to have a more democratized (I hate that word) vision of what the goal should be, always reaching further since you get most done right before Christmas and right after Easter Break, early times are too many do overs, but maybe this initial layout agreement would eliminate the "Well, I thought it was going to be ...." errors with expensive supplies. |

Sir, you are a treasure. I post a lot on the failure of public schools, and on Bell Curves. You're on the curve....waaaaay over on the right side. If every teacher was like you, we wouldn't have a problem in the schools. In case I missed it, how would one donate to this worthy cause? |

There are some amazing stories on that wall that give just a small glimpse of what that generation went through. It's fun to watch people walk in there for the first time, and then migrate over to the wall and start reading the inscriptions. |

There are many admin and other teachers who make this whole thing possible. Most admin and building supervisors would not allow me this kind of freedom. It makes it all possible.

The fun part about the beginning, is seeing where it all may lead us. Not sure I posted a picture in this thread, but there were 5 different versions of just the mermaid. All with distinct differences......one just a bit to "passionate"  . The kids, last spring, talked about different details in each rendering and what might be best for our sculpture. Hopefully, our version will be better than what the individual renderings looked like. It also allows me to say, "well, this is kind of what I was thinking, but we need to make it better. What kinds of things do you think would do that?" We will also have a list of ideas that aren't currently on board, that might inspire us to change the direction all together in that particular corner. It really is a fun problem to work around.

I really like the "2.5D" elements you've added to other projects, it really packs more visual impact vs only a painting or a standalone model. The Castle and villages stuck to the wall smoothly into a sculpture/model crafted together to meld into the scene. Great example in this back side wall of the Dragon room with the bow of the ship coming out of the mist, the castle and the little hobbit villages with paintings around them.  Except, the AI takes it one further and it's awesome if you can pull it off. The full blending of the sinking ship in 2.5D where you can't really tell where the painting ends and the ship protruding from the walls begins (right side of wall up to top of office window is excellent example), rather than using cotton to blur the split point, this needs to be blended smoothly in and gently extending out from the wall until it's like "hey, it's actually out of the wall" moment.  Getting the mermaid detail to match the AI Vision would make tiling the space shuttle with rivets look super easy. |
