Revere officer suspended over misuse of license plate reader system REVERE, Mass. — A Revere police officer was suspended without pay earlier this year for misusing Flock license plate reader technology, according to the department. The city's police department began an internal investigation into officer Michael Tiso after receiving a complaint last December. 5 Investigates has learned that the review found he not only accessed Flock's cameras to locate a woman he had an active restraining order against, but he also looked up her license plate using a state database. Both were found to be violations of department policy. Tiso served his suspension, and the findings of the internal affairs investigation were reported to the Massachusetts Peace Officers and Training Commission, or POST, which tracks officer misconduct. He has since returned to duty. |

Brunswick Co. Sheriff’s Office employee resigns amid investigation into Flock system misuse BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - A Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office employee has resigned and is now under state investigation following allegations that they misused the agency’s Flock Safety license plate reader system. Sheriff Brian Chism announced the ongoing probe in a video statement, noting the alleged misuse was flagged during a routine audit of Flock system activity. “Oversight and accountability are critical when law enforcement uses technology such as Flock, and when a concern is identified, we take it seriously and act accordingly,” Chism said. “One employee’s alleged misuse of a system should not be confused with the authorized use of that system by the men and women of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.” Following an initial Internal Affairs investigation, the unidentified employee resigned. The sheriff’s office has since referred the matter to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) for an independent review. |

(Atlanta News First) — A Clayton County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been arrested for allegedly abusing his Flock camera privileges. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said it took Erroll Farrell Jr., 40, into custody. He faces a charge of misuse of a license plate reader system. The GBI said the sheriff’s office asked it to look into the accusations. Farrell allegedly used the system for reasons unrelated to his job. Richardson said that he received information from an out-of-state newspaper, which questioned data they reviewed on a website regarding Flock inquiries that Schoof allegedly made in 2024 and 2025. He was then a detective for Chesterton, but was reassigned to work patrol in January 2026. |

Late last month, Jasper County Prosecutor Theresa Kenney filed four counts of misuse of official information by a public servant against Kenneth Andersen. The charges are all misdemeanors. Jasper County Judge Nicole Carlton allowed Andersen to post a $20,000 surety bond on the condition that he not contact any of the victims in the case. According to court records, JPD says in December 2025 it learned Andersen performed a large number of computer checks of the Flock safety system for three vehicle license plates. Those accusations touched off a big debate about the use of Flock cameras and JPD’s lack of oversight of their use. JPD called in the Missouri State Highway Patrol to investigate. The investigation showed Andersen conducted 22 unauthorized checks of the vehicles and license plate numbers of two of his girlfriends and the current boyfriend of one of the women. |

In a statement around 4 p.m. Friday, Joliet police officials announced a “sworn officer and a public safety dispatcher” have been placed on administrative leave following discovery of alleged misuse of Flock Safety technology. “Upon this discovery, the department took administrative action and referred the matter to the City of Joliet Inspector General for investigation. Swampscott, MA cop put on leave following Flock investigation SWAMPSCOTT — A Swampscott Police officer has been placed on paid administrative leave after the department was notified of concerns involving possible misuse of Lynn’s Flock license-plate reader system. Swampscott police announced Friday that the department had been notified by its law enforcement partners in Lynn of concerns involving access to that city’s Flock system. The department subsequently opened an internal investigation to determine whether its policies or standards had been violated. Swampscott police did not identify the employee placed on leave or provide additional details regarding the investigation. Although Swampscott does not have Flock cameras installed in the community, its police officers have been authorized to access license-plate reader systems through partner communities for active law enforcement investigations. |

Gwinnett County Police charge, terminate two more officers for Flock misuse The Gwinnett County Police Department (GCPD) has terminated and charged three total officers for alleged Flock Safety abuse as part of an ongoing investigation. Renee Downer was arrested and charged back in May of this year with simple battery and stalking for reportedly misusing the system. Now, Derric Holmes and Matthew Lau are being fired and charged. Michigan City Police officer resigns after violating flock security policy MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Michigan City Police Department has identified a violation of department policy involving an officer's use of the Flock public-safety camera system. During a routine audit of the Flock system activity, MCPD discovered searches conducted by an officer that raised concerns regarding their validity. MCPD immediately conducted an internal investigation, and the officer was placed on administrative leave. MCPD says, the officer resigned during the investigation. The department's administrative review determined that the officer's use of the system goes against MCPD policy. Once the investigation is complete, it will be forwarded for review to the LaPorte County Prosecutor's Office. |

Kingsville police officer resigned after being confronted over personal use of surveillance, records show KINGSVILLE, Texas — A Kingsville Police Department officer resigned the same day his department confronted him about using the city's Flock automated license plate reader system for personal reasons, KRIS 6 News has confirmed. A misconduct investigation report obtained by 6 Investigates shows Detective Gabriel Garcia's supervisor confronted him about approximately approximately 5,300 searches for personal reasons. Garcia resigned effective July 31, 2026, according to the report filed with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. The department's internal investigation sustained the finding that Garcia violated a Kingsville Police Department policy, which governs the use of automated license plate readers, according to the misconduct report. The department imposed an indefinite suspension and completed its investigation on August 28, 2026, the records show. Garcia's resignation was a single handwritten sentence on a sheet of yellow legal paper, according to the document released under open records. It read in part that he was resigning effective July 31, 2026. |
