I prefer an analog dash and I don't want a bunch of telemetry and "smart" gizmos, a basic radio that I can connect a phone to or put a SD card in is just fine (and what I have in my truck now). ETA- For those who don't know, the REO Speedwagon was a real truck and where the band got its name. They also made military vehicles during the war. Power windows and door locks have been pretty standard since the 90s even on base model vehicles, there's not much to them and even before then you could buy kits from JC Whitney to install yourself. Not sure when keyed doors became a premium feature? I don't care about a key fob. I'm sure A/C will be an option- I want it, it's not mandatory as I don't use mine most of the year now even here in SC or when I lived in Asia (and the one in my Tacoma is currently broken and I haven't gotten around to repairing it). I've owned a couple dozen vehicles at this point and never an automatic. My primary vehicle for much of my adult life was a FJ40, first a '75 then for a long time an '80 FJ40 (which I foolishly sold) but I've also owned a FJ60, multiple air cooled VWs (nothing power on them and no A/C), Fiat Spider and motorcycles. I think I'll be fine with a basic vehicle. No, I will not be putting any money down until they have an actual product available to purchase. ETA- I do wish companies would bring back wing/vent windows though, modern cars don't pull air in like old ones and it was nice to be able to direct the air flow. Even my '80 FJ40 had done away with them, the '75 had them. |

I probably wouldn’t hold off on a Maverick purchase for that long of a time on a chance something comes out. |

I probably wouldn’t hold off on a Maverick purchase for that long of a time on a chance something comes out. I'm talking about the Slate truck here. They're indicating production this year for those. So I was wondering when it will be up for regular sale. For a Maverick I was actually looking at buying one earlier this year but family stuff became more important. So I'll probably purchase something by the end of this year before either of these things come to market officially.

Funny you mention the hardbody. I drove mine to work today. 5MT, 4wd, manual windows, no cruise, no AC (gonna be 90 today) but until it dies I have no use for another small truck. Still going strong after 40 years though. 4/86 build date and Japan built unlike the 87+. |

When do you expect deliveries? I'll wait and see, but not paying to wait and see.
The current target roadmap is: model reveal in Q4 2026, pilot builds and validation in 2027, order book and configurator in 2028, and first deliveries in late 2028/2029. These are targets and may change as the vehicle moves through design, validation, certification, and production. Is this what the truck is going to look like? No. The visuals you see today are not production designs, and they are not even final concept designs. They are early directional imagery for the idea and attitude of the vehicle. Real model reveals, production design, specifications, colors, options, and configurator details come later. |

"Starting from $19,995" ![]() Plus destination. Given the very few zero option Hybrid XLs that made it to dealer lots before the mid year roll up to $22,450 - with ADM and rapacious accessorizing, I'm morally certain very few of those transacted at even MSRP+destination |

I think that this will probably never happen. If it does somehow happen, it will not be available until 2030 at the earliest, and it will cost $30K. Neither this nor the Slate are superior to something like the Maverick or the Santa Fe, and nobody will buy them. |

Frankly, this could actually work, at least in concept. Everybody is looking at this as their only truck or even only vehicle. I don't think that is the intent. These trucks will fill the gap between SxS and 60-75k full size mall crawlers and HD tow rigs. Nobody, honestly, likes riding around town in their SxS with a snowmobile engine screaming at them all the while annoying the shit out of everyone else on the road. They're just a motorized version of road bicyclists. Everyone knows the crewcab dually is pain in the ass to get around with in town and something like a cheap midsize like this will keep you from piling on the miles on your very expensive truck by under utilizing it as a commuter grocery getter. Your 100k truck will last 20 years easy if only used for its intended purposes. If they can produce a "real" usable truck that is tough, easy to maintain and repair, with proper suspension and non-electric powertrains, they might be on to something. But only at the stated price point. Think of a cross between a old school Scout II and a Hilux. Great for hunting, fishing, farm work, chore work and the aftermarket will jump at a new market to fill. |

The only way this works is they not only deliver on the promise but the vehicles wind up at dealers for purchase or though some network in workable numbers. It's never going to happen but I can dream. |
