Thread pitch/sizes....

What do the numbers 1/2-28 and 5/8-24 mean?

Half inch O.D. and 28 tpi?
5/8 inch and 24 tpi?

There is no standard spec on the length?

Suppressors are either 1/2 x 28 or 1/2 x 32.

That's my two pennies. I don't know if the 1/2 refers to length instead of OD.

That'd be correct,  length of any threaded portion would be called out in specs/blueprints, as well as taper, etc.    (as in pipe threads, which are tapered)

.500 Diam x 28 threads per inch.  Od and number of threads per inch.
OAL would be any length you want

And this...

.500" and .625" are the nominal major diameters of the threads.

24 and 28 are the number of threads (turns) per inch of length.

Be aware that the cross section shape of the threads is important - not all 1/2 -28 threads are created equal and will not interchange, for example.
